The aging, secretly Deryni wife of one of the king's ministers has just given birth to a new child, conceived for a special destiny as the protector of the king's infant son. But this new baby, Krispin, is more than he seems, and that will have dramatic and far-reaching consequences for many.
The daughters of one of Gwynedd's few Deryni nobles come to court and grow up in still-dangerous times. Alyce and Marie de Corwyn struggle to find their places in a world that still condemn them for the magic they were born with, and both pay heavy prices for that prejudice. Alyce, in particular, finds herself walking a dangerous tightrope as an heiress to powerful lands and titles as she works to protect herself as well as the royal family she's vowed to serve.
Would love to see more of The Adept, from Kurtz and whoever worked with her on that.
Further command I withhold until books 2 & 3. which I have already purchased and read.
I am a bit smug, I started way back when this was an L. Sprague De Camp/ Lin Carter recuritment project. Some guys just know how to pick a winner. The Deryni will delight, amaze and enthrall you and in the thirty-seven years I have been following the saga I have but one complaint...I can read'em faster than she can write them.
Get this book. Of course you'll have to read all of the novels in the series so why not just buy all of them now? I know that's a lot of money but you'll think it cheap once you've read. Then you'll join the ranks of the faithful, waiting, watching and wanting until the next book comes out. But wait there is a new book, Childe Morgan and by the time you've finished it the rest will be there.
