I bought the top 6 reviewed grill presses on Amazon.com, and used them for several months in a rigorous comparison in my kitchen. I liked this one the best. The products I compared were:

#1 Best: Kingsford KCA11 Grill Press, Rectangular Kingsford KCA11- this grill press has the perfect weight for holding down, but not crushing, grilled sandwiches, sausages, burgers, and bacon. The handle is easy to hold and comfortable. I'm going to buy a few more.

#2: New 8-Inch Barbecue BBQ Grill Steak Weights, Heavy-Weight, Hamburger Bacon Sausage Grill Press, Commercial Grade, Cast Iron New 8-Inch Barbecue BBQ Grill Steak Weights- this grill press is almost identical to the Kindsford, but is slighly less well made (and two dollars cheaper). I found the edges to be less well finished and the handle to be somewhat poorly fitted to the iron.

#3: Lodge Logic LGP3 Pre-Seasoned Rectangular Cast-Iron Grill Press Lodge Logic LGP3- I found this press a little too light weight to properly grill a nice cheese sandwich. In addition, the handle scared me. It never got hot, but it always looked like it was, even after months of use, and I found the minor stress of remembering that it wouldn't burn me to be a negative feature. I prefer the wooden handles.

A press is not an absolute necessity when cooking but an absolute convenience. I did my homework. Looked at various presses in stores and online, read the reviews and bought the Kingsford: Best size, best construction, heavy enough. I am pleased with the product.

These weights are made of cast iron, thus should never be washed with soap. The problem with the cleaning of them is that there are squares on the side you use, and when grilling meats, esp hamburgers, the raw burger gets stuck in the grooves. I have found that I have to clean those out with a toothbrush, and then because you cannot use soap to get the germs out, I wind up having to heat these in the cast iron skillet to make sure that they are hygenic for the next use, and of course I put oil on them, as you would a cast iron skillet to keep them from rusting, which of course you would have to do with any cast iron product. In a skillet, you would not have to treat the skillet every time as the oils stay on the pan, ,but with these getting raw meat on them, you have got to use a toothbrush to scrape out all the raw meat particles. I would advise choosing a press that does not have these grooves. I would still oil them and heat them to kill germs, but at least I would not have to use a toothbrush to clean out all the meat particles.

Well, it's a hunk of cast iron with a handle. What can you say? It holds down the food being cooked and does not stick to it. That is what I wanted. Easy to clean and reasonably priced.

I've been using this product for about a year. We typically used it with an over-the-stove griddle and also in frying pans. It gets monthly use, although it's sometimes more often depending on our food choices.

This is a good quality item. It gets hand-washed as required, and only gently. We typically air dry the item, and that's where just one little flaw appears (and it's easily remedied).

If you leave it to air dry, and for some reason it doesn't dry fast enough, this thing will rust. Just a little rust, though. Enough that you can wipe it off with a paper towel.

We just make sure ours is dry, and sometimes do a light coating of oil on it to seal out moisture.

In any case, it's a really helpful product for pressing various meats, sandwiches, and the like. I recommend the product, but again - keep it dry.

Thanks!

This press is so worth the money. I use it for paninis and it has a great weight to it. It does the trick without much effort. I can't do without it now.

The Kingsford Grill Press is great. Very easy to clean and keep seasoned. I have had no rust problems with it or loose handle issues. Granted you have to handwash it but it's worht the little time to clean and season it before you store it. It has good weight and covers bacon well, even works great on the Bison burgers I cook for my family. I'm very happy with it.
