I have been using the Kingslim D4 for approximately 1 month in conjunction with a Samsung Pro Plus 256GB microSDXC card. I am only using the front camera at this time, and will install the rear view at a later date. I set the camera’s front resolution to 3840 × 2160 with a record time of 3 minutes per clip which results in a file size of approximately 415 Megabytes per mp4 video.Install was fairly straight forward. I bought some stronger 2 sided adhesive tape and stuck the camera mount / gps unit directly to the housing behind my mirror on my 2023 Hyundai Sonata. I got power from the factory wire harness using a Dongar Technologies Dash Cam Power Adapter 10-pin Type H for Select Kia/Hyundai and bought a smaller 9” cable “CERRXIAN 9Inch Mini USB Cable Combo Mini USB Right Angle & Left Angle Male to USB Type A 2.0.” The camera is built solidly and I like the camera’s design.Trying to use the kingslim app at my house was near impossible. You need to connect to the Camera's wi-fi like it’s a wi-fi router, and my phone kept detecting no internet connection so it would disconnect from the Kingslim D4 and re-connect to other devices within range.I decided to just pull the micro SD card, and plug it into an adapter on my PC. The file directories are organized very well, with directories for both front and rear view in each of the main directories such as event, photo, park, and video. The file structure seems to allocate space for both the front and rear camera, because after nearly sporadic use since installing it, I only have vide from the the last 17 days (used for 30 days) and the card has a total of 466 files in the directory. I have used 107GB and it says there is 131GB free. I believe the camera has already overwritten older videos even though there is still an abundance of space on the micro SD card. The first thing I noticed when trying to play the mp4 video file from the micro SD card, was that my PC was lacking a video codec. I received a pop-up message saying I needed a HEVC Video Extension that would cost $0.99 from the microsoft store. After purchasing the codec, I was able to view the files on the windows media player. The video quality is decent, but nowhere near the quality of a GoPro camera. The video image has a slight grainy look to it, but if you pause the video, you can still make out the license plates passing you at approximately 20ft away. Overall, it’s a decent image, but not sure how much, if any better than a good 1080p image with a faster frame rate. The image of night videos were pretty good, but with any camera, pretty difficult to make out license plate numbers unless they are close and lit up with your headlights. The microphone quality was pretty decent too, but may need to be turned up to catch people speaking softly.Overall, a nice camera at a good price. The video quality isn’t going to be that of a GoPro, but the images captured will definitely detail what happened in any accident / driving situation, etc.
The ease of installation and user friendly feature made it an overall good dash cam for the price. I installed my rear cam to the rear windshield without having to hassle with taking out the factory backup camera. The video and camera quality is decent for what it is.
After having it for about a month now, here is my opinion. First, The packaging is nice and adds an element of "high end" electronics. Inside is packed with everything one needs to install and more. There are extras in the event I want to reinstall in a different vehicle and also has the tool for tucking and hiding the wires which is a nice addition. The camera itself is very nice looking yet small enough to not create a blind spot. The rear camera is small and inconspicuous if installed correctly. I mounted the rear cam inside, on the roof looking out the back window, so it has a nice wide viewing angle. The rear cam can also be hooked up to the reverse lights so that it becomes a backup cam when the vehicle is put in reverse. The main camera feels well made and not cheap and the touch screen is very responsive giving the feel of a high end cell phone. I love the feature of just touching the right side of the screen to toggle through: Full screen main cam, Main cam with rear cam in window overlayed, rear cam with main cam in overlayed window and full screen rear cam. The video from the main cam is great quality (although I don't think it is true 4k) but still better than full 1080p hd. It clearly captures license plate numbers in front within a reasonable distance. The PC and Phone/tablet apps are nicely laid out with both the video and GPS map. Although I can't get them to synchronise on any of my computers, tablets or phones, and one of my computers is a custom built recording studio computer that has massive amounts of RAM and storage that runs in Mac or P.C. and still can't get the video to play smoothly or synchronize with the gps. So I definitely think that the apps still need work to speed them up. I can, however, get the videos to play smoothly if I open them up as just a video without GPS using a video playing app. If I had to pick 1 thing I don't like and/or needs to be redesigned, It would be the release button. I can't and don't leave the cam in my car when I'm parked due to the heat. Just going to the store and home for a total of about 30 minutes heats this thing up so much that It is actually too hot to touch. Given the ridiculously hot summer this has been, I don't know if it's only the heat from the sun or a combination of sun and operating temp. So, Every time I get home, I remove the cam from the bracket using the release button and it is a major pain in the @$$. I know exactly where the button is, as I can feel it, but I still spend 5 or 10 minutes trying to get the camera to release from the mounting bracket. It should definitely have the button on the front somewhere or a much larger release mechanism. Due to the type of car, the angle of my windshield and the very limited space in my car, reaching the windshield just below my rear view mirror is quite difficult, and made harder by the steering wheel pressing into my chest and the fact that I have to fight with the camera just to get it off without ripping the entire mount off the glass in this heat is enough to make me pretty irritable. Also, I know that people leave it in their car at night because it will record any disturbances to the vehicle but if some one is going to break into a vehicle to steal anything worth money, they are probably going to grab this camera first, defeating the purpose of it being there in the first place. Having said that about the release button, I still do like this cam and think it is worth the price and would highly recommend it to anyone. It is for this reason and because all the pro's out weigh the 1 con that I still give it a 5 star rating.
Great dash-cam. Have had one in my truck for many years and works great. Ordered another one for other vehicle but after 4 hour installation found the main head unit would not boot up and stay on, it just cycled on and off. Amazon tech was helpful and agreed there was a fault in main head unit. Wish they could have just swapped me a new head unit but had to uninstall everything and send it back for compete replacement. Before installing everything (rear cam, wires, etc) like I did check main front cam (head unit) first. I believe this was a rare problem but to save yourself a lot of work I would check it first.
During the day, the camera almost always struggles to adjust for brightness, and opts to leave the exposure turned all the way up so that all you see is white. You can force it to re-adjust by briefly blocking the lens, but surely this shouldn't be necessary. I definitely don't recommend using the screen sleep feature as you'll likely also have entire trips where all you see is white and you just won't know about it.
Also, this has got to be one of the least configurable things I've ever seen. You can set the resolution, and that's almost it. You can't include your own text (like license plate) and you can't disable the "Kingslim D4" text in the corner. There is a desperate lack of features.
I was hoping a firmware update might help, but that just lead to a "page not found", so guess that's a no-go as well. For now, I plan on using it, but there's a very real chance I'll get tired of the issues and put my old one back up. I haven't even tried the rear portion yet, but I don't have much hope that it's worth it.
The only pro I have is that the GPS works and at least puts your speed on the video. I get the impression that you're meant to be able to see your GPS data in the app as well, but this just didn't load for me. The Android app is also hot garbage for a slew of reasons not even worth mentioning.
TL;DR: Just no; for any price. It simply fails to record any useful video VERY often.
Bought this dashcam last year on may 2023 now the rear camera is not working , tried plugging other rear camera and still no pictures , dashcam input craped out , wasted $100 , not happy !!! Contacted seller and they replaced a new one , thank you
installation instructions can be a bit clearer, but nothing that a couple of youtube videos can't help you with. overall, picture quality is good & the product works well. my major complain is: although it has an built-in battery, it is not even enough to turn the unit on for more than 15 seconds. So, it 100% relies on the car's cigarette lighter for power and my car (VW Golf) powers off the cigarette lighter when the engine is off. so, if someone bumps the car while parked, i don't think it will record (haven't tried it yet). The wifi signal is also very weak. the unit need to be within 30-50cm max to connect to your phone (vs. the 2meter stated in the manual).
