3.0 out of 5 stars Not as fast as it could be. Gets hot and slower.
By Joshua on May 14, 2015
===================================
UPDATE: 26 OCT 2016
The new drive has run smoothly for over a year now. Perhaps it was a fluke that the first one failed in the months. I'm happy with it.
====================================
UPDATE: 24 AUG 2015
The RMA process was relatively smooth. There is one things that every owner should do! Take a picture of the small numbering on the side of the drive. Kingston will want to know the serial number printed there, and those numbers rub off easy. After owning mine for three months, it was almost beyond reading. Take a picture or write down that number in case you need it.

I do have to remove another star due to the fact that the drive failed after three months. The good news is that Kingston offers a 5 year warranty on most of their flash drives.
====================================
UPDATE: 5 AUG 2015
The drive has died. It takes every computer a long time to recognize the drive. Once that happens it shows up as a empty media drive, much the was that a memory card reader would. It is possible that the memory chip has come loose from the controller board. Starting the RMA process, will update.
====================================
UPDATE: 28 JUNE 2015
This drive does get very hot under continuous load. Once it heats up it appears to have a duty cycle to prevent it from frying itself. In other words, it gets slower as it gets hotter. I've done some further testing while hot and with two different file formats (NTFS and exFAT). The speeds are roughly the same.

I do not recommend this drive as a bootable USB OS drive.

NTFS:
Sequential Read/Write : 37.811 MB/s / 10.789 MB/s
Random Read/Write 512KB : 37.268 MB/s / 0.604 MB/s
Random Read/Write 4KB (QD=1) : 5.448 MB/s [1330.0 IOPS] / 0.006 MB/s [1.5 IOPS]
Random Read/Write 4KB (QD=32) : 5.685 MB/s [1387.8 IOPS] / 0.006 MB/s [1.5 IOPS]

exFAT:
Sequential Read : 37.621 MB/s / 12.525 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 37.443 MB/s / 0.893 MB/s
Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 5.438 MB/s [1327.6 IOPS] / 0.006 MB/s [1.5 IOPS]
Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 6.670 MB/s [1628.5 IOPS] / 0.005 MB/s [1.3 IOPS]
====================================

This drive is small for it's capacity, much smaller that I expected. That's not bad. Though it does not have good USB 3.0 speeds. Here is the test results:

Let's compare this to the SanDisk Extreme, which has an advertised speed of "Up to 190MB/s".

At it's fastest, it's has 47.9% the speed of the SanDisk, and the slowest it's 0.1% the speed. The SanDisk is between 2x to 1000x faster, depending on the application.

The Kingston has a good price for a good capacity, just bad speed. My major reason for purchasing this instead of another SanDisk Extreme was this is made of metal, and the SanDisk's break on my key-chain after a year of use.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sehr guter Stick, aber Vorsicht mit Fälschungen!
Reviewed in Germany on January 23, 2020
