Simple and functional, I would highly recommend this extremely inexpensive USB drive. I've never experienced any difficulties using it. I've attached the video, allowing the consumer to see the device from every angle. Happy shopping!

Benched two of these UFDs on Windows with ATTO Disk Benchmark. With 32KiB test patterns, averaged 5.17MiB/s write and 15.35 MiB/s read, increasing to peaks of 7.72 MiB/s write at 128KiB and 20.54MiB/s at 256KiB. Capless design a plus, construction seems reasonably solid, reviews elsewhere seem to indicate better-than-average to very good reliability in terms of defect rate. (My ownership is a few weeks at time of review.)

I really like Kingston flash drives; they have never failed me. They've been dropped, run through the washing machine/dryer, and generally put through a beating, but they just keep going. Their main competition is Sandisk and I hate how they always run that stupid program when you plug it in. (This program wouldn't work on my high school's computers a couple years ago, as they were seen as a security threat, making them useless...) As for this particular one, It's got a fast read/write speed and I haven't seen any problems except the storage size. It says 7.2GB on my computer but it's labeled 8GB... However, this always happens with EVERYTHING dealing with storage, so it's nothing.

First of all, I'm not writing this to discriminate other USBs' with the KINGSTON products. However, after using Sandisk, HP, AND Transcend products, I have never experienced one like this. Personally, I feel comfortable using this. Not only the downloading and writing speed is faster, it feels safe and comfortable when I keep it inside my pocket. I recommend this to other Amazon customers.

Item seemed to work okay but as I went to close it the USB connection bent and will not straighten back out. Always gotta be a bad one in the batch and I got it this time. Will not order another model designed like this, product still works but since it won't close it's not practical to keep so will be returning. Got one for a friend as a gift awhile ago and theirs is fine.

I ordered 2 of these from another retailer, and one of the 2 was dead. They have a good physical design and feel sturdy, so I ordered 2 more from amazon. One immediately gave the 'invalid disk, please format' error, the other one waited until I transferred 2 files before returning the identical error. Both showed up as RAW in Win7, and on my 2008R2 server. I tried chkdsk, which failed, and then I tried formatting them in the hope that the format would mark a few sectors as failed and the rest of the drive would be fine. Nope. Every single sector was marked as failed. "15232512 bad sectors were encountered during the format. Invalid media or Track 0 bad - disk unusable." So out of 4, I have 3 bad flash drives. I know that sometimes stuff just happens, but 3 out of 4 from two different retailers points to something systemically wrong. Something like a very high defect rate, poor packaging design, an internal issue with the USB to flash bridge, or the flash itself.

I know that only getting 4 is not a statistically valid sample, but it is enough for me to not buy this usb drive.

Update: I wanted to give a quick update on this review. 3 of the 4 that I got were DOA, but one worked fine. That one is still going strong. Besides the first few weeks, it has been hooked into my USB player in the car. That means it gets to deal with 130+ degree interior car temps along with way below freezing temps (hit negative 48 last year on 2 days). So the one drive that worked for me can sure take abuse and is still kicking after 4 years.

I have been looking for a rugged and dependable USB drive to carry around with me at all times. The problem I have with previous USB drives is that they are just too flimsy. Yeah, they will last for a while and work perfectly fine but, inevitably, they break. This has caused me to constantly worry about the data stored on them, and the ability to retrieve that data if (and when) it breaks. My problem always seems to be the actual USB plug part breaking from the actual body of the drive. (Sorry for the "non-technical" terms.) This usually occurs when I kick the drive while it is plugged into my desktop, or it breaks when I put my laptop down.

So I bought this drive because it looks pretty durable and also considering its called the "DataTraveler." While the slide to cover the USB plug is very nice and does offer more protection than other drives, the point at which the USB plug sticks out from the body of the drive still feels as flimsy as any other USB drive I have used. Oh, and don't be fooled, the drive case and the protection slide thingy are all still made out of regular old plastic.

Also, they made a very strange decision on the orientation of the keyring hole. The keyring hole is oriented perpendicular to the drive, as opposed to parallel. What this means is that when you put it on a key ring (as I do since I carry it around with me) it ends up sticking out at an angle with the rest of your keys. Seems like a strange choice. Would have made my keyring a whole lot less bulky if the drive just laid flat with the keys next to it.

Having said all this, it still is a perfectly fine USB drive and pretty cheap considering the storage space. Just wish it was designed a little better...

[UPDATE] Annnnnnd the keyring hole just broke off completely after a grand total of 2 days of use. This drive is made out of cheap plastic. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS DRIVE IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A DURABLE PRODUCT.
