I used a program called CrystalDiskMark v3.0.1 x64 to benchmark this and other USB drives. To be completely fair, I tested all USB 3.0 drives on my newer computer with USB 3.0 ports, while USB 2.0 drives were tested on my older computer with USB 2.0 ports. Here are my results:
- Kingston DT100 G3 USB 3.0 Drive: Sequential Read=42.5MB/s; Write=10.7MB/s
- Sandisk Ultra Fit USB 3.0 Drive: Read=148.4MB/s; Write=39.4MB/s
- Kingston DT101 G2 USB 2.0 Drive: Read=21.8MB/s; Write=16.0MB/s
(See my uploaded pictures for benchmark details)
It is misleading to market this Kingston DT100G3 as an 'USB 3.0' drive. Any USB 2.0 drive can be plugged into an USB 3.0 port, since the USB 3.0 port is backward compatible. But the speed of this flash drive is still limited by its slow internal memory, so you cannot see any performance boost just because you’re using this so-called 'USB 3.0' drive.
We purchased Qty.5 of these piece of crap drives for about $9.95 each. We also purchased Qty.5 of Transcend 32GB JetFlash 790 USB 3.0 for $9.49 each. We also had Qty.5 of "Generic brand" USB 3.0 drive, 32GB which we paid $9.00 each from online.
We used these drives to image total of 250 computers. The bottom line, it took Transcend drive 18 minutes to finish imaging a computer. Identical condition took "Generic brand" about 22 minutes. A DRUM ROLL PLEASE..... IT TOOK MORE THAN 42 MINUTES TO IMAGE A COMPUTER USING THESE KINGSTON DRIVES in identical condition. Holy cow..Stick me with hot poker please.... We bought these Kingston drives because we have used many, many Kingston SSD HD drives to replace laptop drives.
A little difference in performance is understandable. But if you are taking 150% "MORE" SLOWER than a your rival, please throw your products in trash can. I got so pissed off, I threw these in my trash can.
Very disappointed with Kingston !
It's not like this is my only flash drive; I know how quickly the data should be transferring with this hardware. (Surely Kingston didn't think we wouldn't notice...?) As others have shown with their metrics, this drive is just painfully slow.
At least it was cheap, I guess. And eventually, it holds the data you put on it. So it's semi-useful... as long as you're not waiting for it to finish writing before you can move on with your next task.
Would not buy again.
2.3 years into the 5 year warranty zero is what I got. The computer rarely recognizes. When it does it disconnects mid transfer.
No devices recognize what files are already on there.
I now have 2 of these POS in my collection. Both unfixably "write protected"
Warranty service is head bashing. Unholy hold times, customer is required to report unreadable numbers on drive, RMA emails that NEVER arrive. All for the privilege of sending them back on your own dime and waiting for replacements. I wouldn't send them my data anyway. It cannot be erased.
I'm done with Kingston. I'll add them to my list of failed manufacturers to avoid. They are totally irresonsible.
64GB Units. Their random write speeds tested well below 1 MB/s. This does not even measure up to USB 1.1 standards. The speeds I measured where a cool 1000 times slower than the theoretical max. for USB 3.0. So I returned the units and asked for replacements [just in case I had bad luck with a bad lot]. When the replacement units arrived, I tested them again. More or less the same result. This time I returned them for good, no replacements! The things were garbage.
32GB units. These ones measured at about 10 MB/s for random write. OK, not USB 3.0, but a decent number for USB 2.0 Silly me, I decided to keep them. Well, turns out that using them has rapidly degraded their speed. Now they are doing Ramdom writes at about 1/2 MB/s; below USB 1.1 standards. Useless garbage.
If this sort of experience had happened with just one unit, I could chalk it up to bad luck getting a lemon. But 12 units, everyone of them performing at dismal speeds? This is just a really bad product.
Just recently, I decided to reformat and give this a try because I needed a USB stick to use as a recovery drive, and failed again which is the reason for this review. I put the recovery data on this stick and booted to USB and sure enough I get a pop up saying I can't use it because a file is corrupted. Next I reloaded the same data on a Sandisk Extreme and no problems.

appena arrivate e formattate in ntfs ( arrivano in fat32 !!!!
OTTIMO VALORO E SENZA NESSUN COSTO.
FARE LA FIGURA DEL PEZZENTE NON MI VA' PROPRIO A GENIO,SPIEGASSERO MEGLIO I LORO PRODOTTI E NON SPACCIARE USB3 PRODOTTI PIU' LENTI QUASI DI USB 1
