Other than that I told them they should have put a sticker saying "This card reader can get very hot" but they won't, it's a nice small SDXC II card reader with good read and write speeds.
Just a FYI
UPDATE: I just for fun inserted this reader into a USB 2.0 slot and did the same tests as before and it's much cooler and I would say slightly warm, so I think using a USB 3.0 slot caused the additional heat because of the more current the reader uses. I do really like the small size and upgraded to 3 stars!
Latest update I so far have not had any heat damage to my SDXC cards but this card reader still gets very hot but I like the small size that I ordered 2 more as I can use the reader and a Lexar 1000x SDXC card on my Mac Book for more storage and with that it's way faster than the internal Mac Book Pro SDXC card reader so changing to 4 stars.
Performance: This reader supports the latest UHS-II on full size SD cards that have an extra row of contacts. It also reads and writes UHS-I and standard SD cards. The microSD slot supports UHS-I. I tested over a dozen different UHS-I and UHS-II cards in this reader. Below are the top performers:
SanDisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s UHS-I 32GB SDHC
98.4 MB/s read
91.7 MB/s write
Toshiba Exceria Pro UHS-II 32GB SDHC
248.3 MB/s read
216.5 MB/s write
(CrystalDiskMark 3.0.3 x64, 1GB sequential read/write tests. Windows 8.1)
Design, build quality and operation: The MobileLite G4 feels solid and durable. The majority of the case is formed from metal and plastic where the SD cards insert. The reader fits snugly in USB ports. SD cards insert easily into the slot. The reader is compact but it does extend about 10mm on each side so it could possibly block other ports next to it. The small holes on the corners appear to be for a key chain attachment but none is included. There is no card access light.
Comparison: Another compact reader the Transcend RDF5 has a thin plastic case and would wiggle in the USB port. It is slightly more narrow but the cards insert on the side. It supports only UHS-I and was not quite as fast as the Kingston G4 with UHS-I cards. Other UHS-II readers currently available from SanDisk and Panasonic cost several times as much as the G4. The SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-II Reader (SDDR-329) has a finicky slider and you must to unplug the SanDisk reader to change cards. The Panasonic micro P2 reader supports UHS-II but it retails for over $300.
It has slots for standard SD and micro SD cards and works like a charm. When connected to a USB 3 port I get between 80-100 MB per second data transfer speeds. It works fine in a USB 2 port, but the speed is obviously less.
The reader is a bit tight in some USB slots, but if you use care inserting and removing the reader, there is no problem. I actually like the secure fit because it lessens the chance of a wiggle causing a connection issue and data corruption. Cards fit very precise and snug, but not overly tight. They are slip fit slots, not the spring loaded push and click style.
Note that it will only work with one card inserted at a time, it won't work with both a standard and micro SD card inserted at the same time.
This is an excellent product, sturdy, well built and fast. I've been using it for about 9 months with no issues. I use it with my Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12 with an USB adapter so I can watch movies/tvshows on the go. It works flawlessly on my NotePro as well as my PC. It was a good purchase because it saved me from a USB card read to attach to my PC. I did research other similar products on Amazon and read the reviews but I opted for the Kingston because of its construction, speed, and value.
