The RAM came in on time, a bit sooner than expected. My gaming computer rig had 8GB DDR3 (2x4GB) 1333 Mhz beforehand, and had this RAM for 5+ years.
The idea of upgrading to 16GB has always been in the back of mind. I know it's not absolutely necessary, all games and software had been working fine this entire time, and there aren't any games that specifically recommend more than 8GB (except Star Citizen, I believe). I did, however, notice occasional stuttering and freezing from time to time when there were demanding games in conjunction with demanding software (web browsers with 10+ tabs).
The installation was simple with my Motherboard (Gigabyte Z97x UD5H), however I did notice that the RAM was set to 1333 Mhz by default, despite the fact it's advertised to automatically set itself up to 1866 Mhz. I had to go into the BIOS and manually adjust it to 1866 Mhz. I noticed I had the option to increase it even further, but I didn't want to overclock higher than recommended.
Ever since doing the above I noticed that the reboot process was slightly faster (My operating system is on a Samsung 850 EVO SSD, so it was already fast to begin with), and I've yet to notice any stuttering or freezing of any sort. There "might" be a bit more speed and fluidity when opening applications and alt-tabbing between them.
It feels good to have this finally done, one less thing to worry about in regards to future proofing.
-Pick your color of choice
-Easy to install
-Support for 1866 MHz (if your motherboard supports it, otherwise will run at motherboard's default, eg. 1333 MHz for mine)
-Cheap (as of this review, $48 vs. 2x4GB Crucial @ $52)
I recommend this product as it looks far better than many basic RAM sticks, comes in several colors, works well, built well, and can run at 1866 MHz. Oh yeah, and it comes with a small Hyper X sticker. Nice touch, I put it on my case next to my other CPU and GFX card badges/stickers.
I will be buying this same product should I need more RAM in the future.
My original problem is I had 16GB, but only 8GB was usable. I went through the whole MSCONFIG thing and nothing worked. I started swapping DIMMs and the best case I got was 8GB usable, and worst case I got was 4GB usable. So I obviously had memory problems. This new batch of memory (2x this kit, so I got a total of 4 pieces). Now, I have 16GB with 16GB usable. YAY!
The other plus is I went from DDR3-1066 to DDR-1333. Ok, Everything seems to run faster but I'm not certain if it's the "kid with new toys" feeling, or more available memory or the 30% memory speed increase. It's probably all of the above but since I haven't done any of the performance tests I mentioned, I really can't say. Honestly, I can't imagine throwing the old memory back in to run performance tests. What a waste of time. At least I can say the system SEEMS more stable and quicker. This has no bearing on brand-on-brand or product-on-product comparisons, just this new batch of memory fixed my broken memory problem and now I'm happy... $75 later.
