This particular RAM wasn't on the supported list for my motherboard, but due to the price, I took a chance and got it anyway. It arrived and got installed. My motherboard set it to run at 1066 by default, but it was easy to change the settings to get it clocked up to 1333 + a percentage based on my overclock settings, which is the max speed that my motherboard supports. Extensive testing has revealed no issues whatsoever. I am very happy with this purchase, and would gladly buy this product again at the same price point, if I was building another system for myself, or someone else.

I purchased the "Kingston Hyper X Blu 8 GB 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 XMP" version of this product. It really is DDR3 1600MHz RAM, though you may see slightly slower CL-11 CAS Latency timing instead of the CL9 CAS Latency timing that Kingston is advertising if your motherboard doesn't support RAM over-clocking.

After some BIOS tweaks to get the faster timing working on my motherboard, this RAM is working really well for me (better than the advertised CL9 XMP performance), and I think it's a good value for the money I paid (just under 70 dollars for 2x4 Gig Modules - 8 Gigs of total memory)

If you are just looking for the short version, that's it - but if you'd like a little more tech info about this specific RAM, here it is . . .

All modern memory modules have a small chip called a Serial Presence Detect ROM (SPD ROM) which has data programmed into it describing how the motherboard should clock that particular RAM, and according to the standard SPD data profile on this particular RAM, it should run at DDR3 1600 speed with CAS Latency timing equivalent to CL-11. In order for you to automatically get the slightly faster CL9 speed, your motherboard must be able to detect and read a second special 'XMP' profile that is programed into the SPD ROM and automatically over-volt the memory by about 10 percent from 1.5 to 1.65 volts (which Kingston apparently feels is needed to juice it up enough to work at the slightly faster CL9 CAS Latency setting).

Many motherboards still can't handle this XMP RAM overclocking automatically, requiring you to change settings to get it to work, or even worse, requiring that you understand a lot of geeky custom BIOS settings so you can manually set the RAM timing settings required.

The build quality and speed of these things are amazing. I picked up 2 of these for $25 back in 2013 and I have to say it's amazing how long they've lasted. One of them blew out due to an unfortunate mishap with my power supply recently but the other one still worked. Says something about how good these sticks are.

This ram worked great with my ASRock dual channel motherboard. Gave me a 7.6 rating in windows and made my PC ridiculously fast. I got mine before the hike in ram prices for under $50 so it was very much worth it and the increase in preformance pretty much spoke for itself. Kingston also has a lifetime warranty so you basically have no worries there. Kingston Hyperx RAM has become my go to. Very very happy with these

Pros:
1600MHz
9-9-9-27 timings
8gb
Beautiful heat spreader

Cons:
1.65v
Not overclock friendly
Wants to run in JEDEC timings of CAS11 @ 1.5v

Overclocking: I tried overclocking these to 1800/1866MHz @ 1.7v and windows wouldn't boot. Then I tried tightening up the timings and it still wouldn't boot (1.7v). I got them up to 1720MHz via the blck @ 107.5, but that is as far as I could push them (1.65v). If you are looking for DIMMs that are somewhat cheap and a lot more overclock friendly, don't go with these. I found that my Ballistix Sport DIMMs were a lot more friendly and am currently running them at 1866MHz with 10-10-10-27 timings @1.65v (i'm sure they can be stable at 2000/2133MHz with a little more voltage.)

Overall, these DIMMs do exactly what they are suppose to do. As advertised, they can run at 9-9-9-27 timings @1.65v, but I had to put those timings into my bios memory configuration to get them to run at that speed. -1 star for that. Definitely a good product, especially for how good they look!

I bought this to use with an existing motherboard, which didn't work (not the RAM's fault, motherboard maker lies!!) so instead of replacing the RAM, i replaced the motherboard and processor, and that, coupled with this RAM is amazing. i5 processor, This RAM, and an NVIDIA GTX 550 ti and I can play anything out right now, cranked up to extreme, load screens only take about a second, everything loads fast and smooth, and my rig is NOT top of the line by any means.

I've used Kingston memory for decades (and still do). These people are one of the first names I knew when learning to upgrade my PC's. I ordered this 2 months ago, and one of the heat shields came bent, but not touching the board itself so I decided to use it anyway. Turns out the bent one ended up not working. I did a return through Amazons excellent customer service, and I'm still waiting for my refund.

I popped this into an old Gigabyte P45 socket 775 motherboard for a total of 16GB of matching Kingston Hyper-X Blue DDR3-1600 and never looked back. Very happy with purchase and would buy again from this vendor.
