I gave it the benefit of the doubt, so I went ahead and configured it as a cache drive with Intel's RST as I originally intended. I got the same 78MB/s writes not just with the bench tools, but also by writing from my main SSD to the newly configured array. What's actually truly sad is that the mechanical drive can actually write faster than that by itself, effectively defeating the purpose of the drive to be used as a cache device since it will be recording incompressible data such as multiple OTA TV shows (this is a Media Center PC).
To add insult to the injury, I also have an issue with this SSD where the HDD light on the computer now remains ON at all times, combined with my disappointment this is now an irritant and complete eyesore. Removing the Kingston SSD resolves this, and I can put back the old SanDisk mSATA drive without causing this new issue.
In a nutshell, I am sorely disappointed with Kingston and I am going to have Amazon issue me a full refund.Read more ›
I used the inexpensive Syba mSATA adapter from Amazon (SY-ADA40050) to image the drive before installation in the NUC, and that worked fine. It's handy to have an mSATA adapter handy if you need to access one of these drives from a conventional PC.
The Kingston packaging is teeny-tiny, no bigger than the SSD itself, so careful, it can get lost in the packaging material.
Computer tested hardware on i7 / 32gb ram Dell m4800 and along with 1u whitebox. This drive was intended to be used in some 1u servers because of the size but with the conversion kit it no longer fit, instead i placed it in my laptop and will use it as secondary hard drive. First off the fall way far off what the manufacturer states they can do the writes are nicer but still not as fast as i was looking for hence the low rating.
Over 20 tests done.

I can't say I'd recommend this over a Samsung or other respected brand, but I cannot say there's anything wrong with this. I'd have no reservations getting this again.
With the SSD installed, the PowerBook G4 Titanium boots very fast and applications launch in a few seconds, although speeds are limited to 66 mbps.
If you looking to breathe new life to your old laptop that only use IDE, I would definitely recommend this mSATA SSD with a use of a converter opposed to relying on the limited selection of IDE/PATA SSDs.
