Product Description

Capacity: 240 GB

Product Description

Kingston's HyperX SSD combines the latest SandForce controller technology with premium NAND Flash, reducing load times while increasing performance and endurance. It provides high-speed SATA Rev 3.0 (6Gb/s) transfer speeds for larger bandwidth, which power users require for advanced gaming, multitasking and multimedia computing power. Kingston's HyperX SSD lets users load games and applications faster, increase frames per second (FPS) and quickly transfer and edit large media files. It's cool, silent and requires less power with no additional cooling requirements. When configuring the HyperX SSD partition, the user can choose between having the maximum available capacity for data storage, or give up a little space to increase performance and endurance. This additional space is called over provisioning1 on an SSD. The amount of performance and endurance increase depends upon the type of data being stored on the HyperX SSD. The more data that is MPEG, JPG, ZIP, ARC, file types, the greater the benefit for this increased over provisioning. HyperX SSD is covered by a three-year warranty and backed by free live technical support and legendary Kingston reliability.

    Size: 240 GB
    Pros:
    - blazing fast, SATA 6Gbs
    - no BSOD with new firmware
    - nice sturdy construction
    - looks great
    - even the "stand-alone" drive comes with a blue 2.5"-to-3.5" bracket, so you don't need to buy one (but see Con)

    Cons:
    - the screw holes on the 2.5"-to-3.5" bracket are not in standard locations like they would be on a 3.5" hard-drive, this matters if you use a hot-swap capable case
    - the screw holes on the bottom of the drive itself are some strange size (I think M2.5 maybe but definitely NOT standard M3 like other drives), again, this matters for hot swap trays, you need to use the Kingston-supplied screws

    No BSOD with new firmware:
I bought this drive for a new PC build. I really like this drive. It's my 3rd SSD, my previous two were Intel brands which have been working flawlessly, so I was really concerned about the BSOD issues with all the Sandforce drives. First thing I did was upgrade the firmware to rev 332 (which shows up as 332ABBF0 on the drive after the upgrade). I've been running benchmarks of all kinds, stress tests, and playing Skyrim for over 2 weeks and not a single BSOD !! No issues putting PC to sleep (like others reporting here). No issues at all.

    Benchmark:
On my system, with AS SSD Benchmark, I get 511MB/s SEQ READ, 295MB/s SEQ WRITE, and an overall Score of 747. It just blows away my previous generation SSD (which were SATA 3GB/s).

    Bracket and screws:
A couple negatives about this drive is that the 2.5"-to-3.5" bracket that came with the drive, the holes are not in standard locations, so if you try to put the drive in the bracket and then put the bracket in a hot-swap tray (like in my Corsair 800D case), the power and SATA won't line up with the backplane!

This little drive performs very well on the windows performance test in windows 7. (windows experience index) I bought 2 of them to do a raid array but it would not work with my motherboard. (intel dx79si) So now I have 2 drives. I would have bought 1 larger drive if I had known. Otherwise I have had no trouble so far. (1 month)

This SSD is great. SSD's still cost a lot, but for the performance and stability associated with this drive, it is the clear choice of any Sandforce-based drives out there. I do not have any Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD) issues so many users have with, what appears to be, every other brand of Sandforce-based SSD. My Windows 7 Hard Drive Performance is rated at 7.9! It claims my RAM is now my computer's bottleneck at 7.8 :)

I bought the 240GB bare drive kit and it includes a 3.5" mounting plate adapter and the bare SSD drive. I paired this drive with a new intel-based computer. My new computer consists of ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe - LGA 1155 - Z68 - SATA 6Gbps and USB 3.0 - ATX Intel Z68 DDR3 2200 Motherboards, 16GB DDR3 RAM, Intel Core i7-2600K Processor 3.4GHz 8 MB Cache Socket LGA1155 and VisionTek AMD Radeon HD 6950 2 GB GDDR5 PCI Graphics Card 900352.

I really like the total silence associated with SSD's. You sort of get used to the hard drive associated mechanical noises over time, but switching out my old system with this system went from almost silent to absolutely silent. The only noise I ever hear is if my video card fan spins up during a game.

Kingston is preparing to release a firmware update for this drive which is available now as a beta if you request it from Kingston support directly. However, I have not had any issues whatsoever with this drive as-is.

I purchased this from Amazon. Drive arrived in 2 days. I have an MSI Z68 motherboard, hooked up to a SATA III port. Loaded windows in 15 minutes. Everything worked great.

After installed all softwares, my Win 7 boot time was reduced to around 12-15 seconds (about 1/3 or 1/4 of used to be), drive came with most recent firmware. It's been running for 2 days, no problem so far.

I upgraded my MacBook Pro 2 months ago with this crazy fast HyperX SSD. I now open Photoshop in 2 seconds and open browsers sub-second as though they were just minimized. I develop software and one of my larger applications used to take over 60 seconds to compile - that same application compiles in under 10 seconds. Multiply that times several dozen compiles a day, and this thing will pay for itself in no time at all.

I run Windows 7 in a Parallels VM and Windows actually runs faster in the VM than it does natively on my Dell's 7200k hard drive.

I bought a kit from OWC that allowed me to move the pre-installed 750GB HD to the optical drive bay. So I have the best of both worlds - 750GB of storage on my spin drive for videos, photos, etc. and I have super fast access to data and applications that I work with on a daily basis.

I highly recommend this SSD and plan to purchase another. What iced it for me was googling 'hyperx ssd pcmark vantage' and seeing how the HyperX rates consistently at the top of many benchmark tests and it does not have some of the problems that other drives have been plagued with.

In addition to being fast and reliable, some general benefits of SSDs are I get better battery life, quieter performance and less heat.

As always, Amazon Prime fulfills my instant gratification needs by getting the HyperX 240 to me overnight for 3.99.
