This has been prefect for my HP Proliant N40L Micro server. It maxes out the RAM on the N40L, which for the money is a great buy. I have been testing various Operating systems with this configuration and the 3 that I have really enjoyed running are WHS 2011, Solaris 11, and FreeNAS 8.0.3. When using FreeNAS or Solaris 11 with ZFS Storage Pools, you'll make better use of 8GB of RAM. 8GB of RAM for WHS 2011 is a little overboard. Generally speaking, for every TB of data using ZFS Storage Pools, you'll want at least 1GB of RAM for caching ZFS metadata, in addition to 1GB-2GB of RAM for the Operating System. So I've got (1) SSD and (4) 2TB drives running in Solaris 11 using ZFS. So I am cutting it close, but still getting great performance because I am using a partition on my SSD as a level 2 ARC cache (L2ARC).

I'd highly recommend this RAM to anyone than needs EEC Server Memory with a Case Latency of 9. Enjoy!

Built out a server with a HP Proliant N40L case. Kinston ValueRAM 8GB kit maxed out the RAM for it and have has 0 issues! ECC RAM is necessary in any NAS or server build and I didn't want to dig deep into my wallet. This product was the perfect solution.

I am using this unbuffered ECC ram (NOT Fully Buffered! If you need FB RAM, this is not for you) in my home server, and it seems to be extremely stable. I can't say much about its performance, because I do not run any games on my server. However, applications open quickly and this is the maximum amount of RAM allowed by windows home server 2011

I had a N36L, sold it (rather stupid of me considering what I do for a living and the Microserver makes a great test platform), and now I bought a N40L. Of course, I need the most from this litle box, and that includes installing the most memory it can handle, which is a pitiful 8GB.

This memory kit does the job and is dirt-cheap. I've very, very rarely had issues with Kingston memory modules, though, performance-wise, they tend to be on the lower end. Maybe that's why - less aggressive with their timings...

Anyhow, this works great in the Proliant N36L and N40L.

I bought this for my first server motherboard -- a supermicro that is said to be particularly finicky about which RAM will work. I wasn't completely sure this would work when I bought it, but Amazon's return policy gave me the confidence to try it. I'm glad I did.

I use this RAM in my HP microserver. The server came with 2GB which is a joke. My guess is nearly everyone upgraded to either 4 or 8 GB of RAM.

I'm running FreeBSD 9.1 with all ZFS filesystems. I have it loaded with 4 SATA HDDs in a RAID 1 mirror. I need a lot of RAM since ZFS can be RAM hungry. This RAM has worked great.

You can go with other brands/models and have it cheaper, but ECC makes all the difference when it comes to reliability and peace of mind. This is the cheapest ECC memory I could find from a reputable manufacturer. It works very well and comes with lifetime warranty. Make sure you check Kingston's website to make sure this memory is compatible with your computer system.

I used this memory with an AMD type Asus motherboard that still supports ECC memory for serious and accurate accounting and scientific calculations. It performs as expected and is backed by Kingston when handled appropriately by the purchaser.
