- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2024Used to run an optical drive in an older Macintosh PowerMac G4 and it worked great and fit in the case after removing some shielding in the case. Drive was a lite-on DVD-R.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2023Update - I had to return these because they do not work with my NAS because they do not have a master / slave jumper. Apparently the jumper on this device is not for master / slave settings. If you need these jumpers then this won't work for you.
If you do not need master / slave jumpers then this adapter works great, and I had no issues with the 4 I purchased.
Original Review Below:
I bought this because I have an old Venus T4U USB NAS with IDE connections, and the drives I want to put in it are SATA.
I was concerned that the SATA to IDE adapter would not work with the NAS, but it works great. I only ordered one to test it out and I will be ordering three more to finish the project. The adapter has plastic covering the SATA connection side to protect from contacting metal and shorting it out.
The only thing that dropped it down to a 4 star instead of 5 star is that there are no instructions. There is a jumper on the adapter and I have no idea what it is for?

- Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2024Works perfectly on an ASUS x86 mainboard from 2003.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2011Used this in a 2005 Dell Dimension 3000 to install a Kingston SSD in place of two old EIDE hard drives. Since it came with no instructions, I did nothing other than plug it in, and it worked just as expected.
Two caveats: 1) There are no jumpers for Master/Slave, so the attached drive comes up as Master and you have no choice; and 2) When the attached drive is accessed, neither the red led on the adapter nor the front panel drive activity led blink (curiously, they both DO blink if a slave drive is attached to the same IDE cable and IT is accessed!)
UPDATE 9/30/2011: I've downgraded this review to 1-star because during a month of use with this adapter installed, my system locked up about every 3 days - locked up, tight as a drum, no mouse no keyboard, no display (if the display had been turned off by power management, otherwise the display was static with no cursor) - the only possible action was turn the machine off and reboot. This happened consistently every few days. I finally ordered the EZQuest IDE-SADA adapter from Other World Computing (see review on Amazon) and replaced this Kingwin adapter. Verdict: the EZQuest adapter has been working prefectly 24/7 for over a week now with no lock-ups. I can therefore only assume that the lock-ups were being caused by the Kingwin adapter (and not the Kingston SSD that I installed at the same time.) To top it all off, the EZQuest adapter DOES correctly pass along disk activity to the front panel LED, whereas the Kingwin adapter DOES NOT; and the EZQuest adapter DOES have a master/slave jumper, whereas the Kingwin adapter DOES NOT. Too much trouble to return it, I'm just tossing it in the trash.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2024I appreciate that they fixed the shorted wires issue by adding the padding on the back. This item works, but it's a cheaply made item, so be gentle with it.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2024Despite its lack of jumpers, this is working in my 1Ghz 15" iMac G4 (PowerMac6,1). I almost posted this review from the G4, but it couldn't quite manage to load the "Submit a review" page. It's a miracle it was able to get me logged in and load my orders page, so no complaints

- Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2024It will work on the OG Xbox but boot times are extremely slow to the point the console will throw error codes when soft restarting. It's not worth the hassle, buy another adapter if your wanting to upgrade your Xbox HDD to a SATA.

Manuel Díaz PachecoReviewed in Mexico on February 16, 20235.0 out of 5 stars Una excelente opción para quienes damos nueva vida a tecnología obsoleta
El adaptador cumple su función. Yo lo he empleado para adaptar un SSD a una iMac G4 (lamp), reemplazando su HDD IDE (ya no se fabrican esos discos). Funcionó a la perfección. Sin hacer ninguna modificación.
Anand S.Reviewed in India on January 24, 20241.0 out of 5 stars Did not work, no returns
It's the other way round for me. I needed an adapter to connect an old PATA HDD to IDE port computer. And there is no return option for this purchase. They should have written instruction correctly and precise.
Bruno LongpréReviewed in Canada on May 19, 20215.0 out of 5 stars This works like a charm
This adaptor is the one you're looking for. Just beleive me.
You can choose from IDE to SATA or SATA to IDE by switching jumper from position "B" to "C" : Clever.
Your only downside is the fact that you will have to have only ONE drive on your IDE cable, since there is no jumper for Master/Slave selection.
Delivery was very fast.

BenReviewed in Australia on May 19, 20215.0 out of 5 stars Works fine in OG Xbox
I used this to install an SSD in my original Xbox - the boot time is a little long (there's no M/S/CS jumper on the adapter) and I had to source an 80-wire PATA cable (which are almost as rare as a good condition IDE HDD), but it works fine!
