If you do not need master / slave jumpers then this adapter works great, and I had no issues with the 4 I purchased.
Original Review Below:
I bought this because I have an old Venus T4U USB NAS with IDE connections, and the drives I want to put in it are SATA.
I was concerned that the SATA to IDE adapter would not work with the NAS, but it works great. I only ordered one to test it out and I will be ordering three more to finish the project. The adapter has plastic covering the SATA connection side to protect from contacting metal and shorting it out.
The only thing that dropped it down to a 4 star instead of 5 star is that there are no instructions. There is a jumper on the adapter and I have no idea what it is for?

You may only see a drive letter in some cases. If you are wiping the drive, something like HDShredder will still wipe the drive. However, it failed to read one drive at altogether. I used Vantec SATA/IDE TO USB 3.0 Adapter which could both see and read all PATA IDE drives with content. Upon seeing it was possible to read all the drives with content, I decided that drives showing only a USB attached hard drive with a drive letter, but still unreadable were most likely unformatted. Personally I think the Vantec solution might the better choice for me (it also comes with any cable combination that might be needed).

You can choose from IDE to SATA or SATA to IDE by switching jumper from position "B" to "C" : Clever.
Your only downside is the fact that you will have to have only ONE drive on your IDE cable, since there is no jumper for Master/Slave selection.
Delivery was very fast.
