From the Manufacturer

The EZ-Connect (Model USI-2535) is your portable, compact, and lightweight Hi-Speed USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE Adapter that lets you easily attach an external SATA or IDE drive and instantly access the drive from your PC through the USB port. The EZ-Connect adapter can support either SATA (hard drive or SSD) or IDE hard drive in 2.5” or 3.5” form factors of up to 3TB disk size. The Hi-Speed USB interface offers plug-and-play capabilities with bandwidth of up to 480Mbps.

Connecting the drive is simple and easy. The EZ-Connect adapter has a 3-in-1 drive connector with a 3.5” IDE connector on one side and a 2.5” IDE connector on the other side for attaching IDE drives, and a SATA connector in front to attach the SATA data cable and the 2.5”/3.5” SATA drive. (Note: You can only attach one drive at a time.) External AC/DC power adapter and SATA power connector are included to supply power to the hard drive. Then simply plug the USB cable into your computer and the drive is automatically recognized. No driver installation needed. The EZ-Connect adapter also comes with a built-in One Touch Backup (OTB) button feature for backing up your files instantly. Just plug the EZ-Connect adapter to your computer and press the OTB button to automatically run the EZ-Connect backup software program. (Note: You will need to install the EZ-Connect software first to your computer running Windows.)

Style Name: USB 2.0
Found this out from a similar device where someone wrote a review:
For IDE drives, the drive's jumpers MUST be set to "MASTER" (not cable select), UNLESS the brand is Western Digital, in which case the jumpers must be set to "SINGLE" (i.e. remove all jumpers). Sure enough, it worked after that! Hope this helps someone else.

****Update 1/30/2013. I finally upgraded to Win7 and this was not recognizing my SATA drive. I emailed customer support and they said might be a defective drive.
I went and purchased a ANKER Uspeed usb 3.0 to SATA or SSD....it recognized my drive right away.
I would no longer buy the Kingwin......Go with the Anker (although it does not work with IDE drives

This product is junk as the 1 other reviewer said. I tried this on 3 different drives, 1 IDE and 2 SATA. First up was IDE, windows said the drive was uninitialized even though I knew there was data on it before, not sure if this one is dead or not since I can't try it my other computer only has SATA. Now the other 2 drives, plugged sata drive 1 in once and it seemed to work, ejected properly in windows and plugged in sata drive 2 and it read so I pulled all of this backup data off of the drive for a few hours. Then I ejected it properly and went to pull off the data on drive 1, guess what, now sata drive 1 no longer works. So I tried some troubleshooting... After a reboot of my computer during this process my computer failed to shutdown or restart with this drive plugged in! When I did unplug it and plug it in to read the drive it no longer stayed spun up and wouldn't even be recognized by windows as a USB drive.

Bottom line 1 drive wouldn't work, quite possibly dead like the second drive that I know is now unable to be read by my computer when plugged in directly. Out of 3 drives only 1 was able to be read correctly and the other 2 are in questionable condition after using this adapter.

If you like playing Russian Roulette with your HDDs, buy this adapter, otherwise avoid like the plague.

Kingwin's products have not let me down- this is no exception. Simple to use, has everything one needs to hook up any type of HD and use as a USB device, and all for a bargain price tag.
I use it for cloning HD's. Makes it easy to transfer an entire OS/HD combo from a smaller drive of one type to a bigger drive of the same or different type. All cables and external power supply are included. No technical geek should be without this product.
The only thing that can be tricky is making sure any IDE drive used is jumpered properly to be recognized. I found jumpering for 'cable select' to work best. Other reviewers who had problems with drive recognition should recheck this issue.
GREAT PRODUCT!

Worked great for me! The only thing to remember if the drive your copying from is 500GB, and the destination drive is 1TB, your copied partition will only be 500GB. Have to extend it afterwards in Windows.

I used it to upsize several SATA bootable drives. In one example I went from a 160G HD to 240G SSD, and this was done by pulling the original HD from the netbook and plugging it into the standalone box along with the inbound SSD, then pressing the button for 3-seconds to start. The box does come with a USB cable, but it is needed for the initial step. It is used for mounting one or both drives into the directory of a host computer, where one can view and use them just like any other USB drive.

As discussed by others, the new drive gets partitioned as the old one was, so I rounded up a command-line utility (DiskPart included in WindowsXP/7/etc) and extend the partition out. Note that this utility and others will not allow you to change a partition on a currently active boot drive. Therefore I wouldn't want to immediately install the new drive back into my one-slot machine. Instead the USB cable is used to mount the drive onto a bootable machine, possibly this machine with the old drive reinstalled, then extend the partition. Now we are finally ready to swap in the new larger drive permanently.

Can the USB cable be used to clone the old drive before taking it out? Yes, however two issues. First, is that if your machine's USB port is only 2.0, then its going to take awhile. For instance, I've got that 500G clone-over-2.0 job going right now that is calculated to last 9 hours. For comparison, doing this using the stand-alone configuration would be perhaps 30 minutes tops. The second issue is that this KingWin product did not come with any host application software for doing this over-USB maneuver. Instead I went and pulled a (free) cloning app off the internet. However this was actually necessary for still another reason.

On the face of it, this looks like a great deal. However, if not for the advice of Jojopuppyfish to use the power supply from other machine, AND to remove the jumper with my Western Digital drive, I would never have figured out how to make this thing work! The company website is useless. There is no tech support number and several areas required user names and passwords to view manuals and download drivers. Yes, I'm happy that I got to rescue my daughter's documents off her old tower computer, but it was a frustrating road to get there. Maybe if I had been less cheap and bought a more expensive product I would have saved myself some anguish.
