Under a normal load, it only feels slighty warm to the touch, so it should last a long time. Additionally, this is covered by a five year warranty.
It seems that that it may now be crossfire certified, as the lable on the unit bares ATI's logo.
If you end up pulling more than 500 watts, its ok as this power supply is rated to 600 watts. However, in pushing it up to 600 watts, the powersupply is only 80 plus gold rated, so you lose some efficiency.
All told this is a quiet power supply that produces very clean power for your pc. All the parts on it were made by top manufacturers, there was no skimping on quality. The major hardware review sights have all commented on these facts.
Would by again!
The Seasonic SS-400FL2 (the 400W version of the Seasonic we are comparing the Kingwin Stryker STR-500 to here) is silent, cool, and gets great reviews by the quiet/silent PC community. I highly recommend that little brother of the power supply being compared to here if you only need 1 PCI-E cable and under 400W.
The hope is that the SS-520FL2, with its multiple PCI-E cables, higher wattage, and higher efficiency would also be as silent as its little 400W brother. Combined with Seasonic's reputation in fanless power supplies this would have made the Seasonic an easy preference.
Unfortunately the 520W version of it, the SS-520FL2, that I ran had ELECTRICAL NOISE. Seasonic assured me and review sites that some original issues were resolved and the unit was silent, however this was not the case with my unit.
The quiet/silent PC community appeared to review the Kingwin Stryker STR-500 a bit better so I chose to try a new brand this time. I swapped in a KINGWIN STRYKER STR-500 and it is SILENT.
So despite the technical leadership and great reputation of Seasonic all these years, I have to suggest the Kingwin STR-500 over the Seasonic SS-520FL2 if you are paying extra for silence.
Given Seasonic's great reputation, though, you might try the SS-520FL2 yourself and just be ready to exchange early enough for it to be easy to do so if needed.
OVERVIEW - DETAILS:
Both fanless power supplies have PLATINUM LEVEL EFFICIENCIES (2-3%+ improvements over gold across the power range) resulting in less heat to dissipate making it even easier to be fanless without electrical noise.Read more ›
This thing is fantastic! With no fan there is no noise. I was concerned about cooling and circulation so when I installed it I took care to organize the cabling to allow maximum airflow. This unit has modular cabling which helps eliminate cable clutter in your case. In addition, my case has a very open design - lots of venting - which is why it was so loud for me. Even after running for a week non stop this unit was cool to the touch.
There have been one or two occasions where the unit emitted an electric hum. Reviews for the unit has mentioned this would happen when it's pushed to full load. While I doubt I was hitting 500W at those moments, the noise was brief and not distracting enough to annoy.
My media PC is so quiet now the only way to tell it's running is by the bright blue LED lamp on the power button. I'd like to lose that, but then I'd never know when it's on or off!
I just went from a 1000wt Bronze Kingwin to this 500wt Platinum fanless, and I still have power to spare.
First, this is a Super Flower made PSU, and for those who know, Super Flower is among the best PSU makers, always ranking in the top 5% on sites like "Johnny Guru." This PSU is also reviewed on "Johnny Guru."
Second, if you look closely on the box, it says "Overclock version. Can be overclocked to 600wts." KingWin rates this unit at 600wts "overclocked", but at Gold, not Platinum. So you're really getting a 600wt PSU. In other words, you get Platinum all the way to 500wts, and then Gold from 500-600wts. So don't be fooled by the 500wt rating. You're really getting a PSU that can handle 600wts continuous. (Getting from 500 to 600wts is called "overloading" not "overclocking," because there is no "clock" on a PSU. However, that's the new marketing name trend manufacturers are following. This unit, tested by Johnny Guru, does 600wts that without problems.)
Currently I'm running a Gigabyte x58 UD5 v2 MB with a first generation i7 920, OCed to 3.8Ghz, with 12Gb RAM and PowerColor HD7950 OCed GPU. If you know what I'm talking about here, you know that that the MB and CPU/OC setup is a real power hog.
I think I pull around 380wts wide open, tested using Prime95 and OCCT running at the same time. So this PSU is right at its sweet spot. But if I needed it, I could get another 220wts out of it. This means I could run two Power Color 7950s and still use this PSU.*
Last, this PSU is fanless! There is no noise, no filters to clean, no fan to wear out. It's completely silent. It's so well made, it doesn't ever get past warm to the touch, ever.
(1) Fanless--no noise.Read more ›

Heats up too much when you're in the tropics. The modular cables have plastic connectors that haven't been smoothened properly. Did not fit cleanly into my Antec Titan 550 case. Read morePublished 22 months ago by RJ

Bought this for a new home built PC. I haven't experienced any power issues. The Fan-less power supplys are pricey, but IMO are worth it. Having a silent PC is awesome!Published 24 months ago by Evelyn Salt

I was worried this would dramatically increase my case temperature but I've been pleasantly surprised. The modular cable feature is really nice, silent as advertised.Published on March 10, 2014 by Evan Kepner
