I had this same unit for 18 months when it failed one morning at boot up. Loaded desktop with a high end GPU overclocked CPU, 5 SATA hard drives, and one optical drive. Still the system only used 365 watts maximum on boot up and and dropping to around 285W while active.

I must add that Kingwin gave me an RMA after doing their paper clip test and in 2 weeks I received a brand new unit including the cables (which I didn't include in the RMA) and their email customer service after filling in the RMA request on line was prompt and excellent. Thank you Kingwin.

I've done a lot of research on power supplies because in the last 5 years I've had multiple failures on many builds. It seems PS are now made by just a few Chinese mfgs. and then rebranded by wholesale suppliers and they ALL have problems from DOA's to a few even spouting flames. At an Amazon competitor site they ALL only have around a 70% high rating due to failures. As computer power has gone up, high power use by GPU's, and low prices on disk storage PS's have to have higher and higher output power. This unit has multiple 12v rails which sounds good on paper but in reality one heavy duty 12v rail is best and you'll notice all the new high powered models have a single 12v rail.

I've come to the conclusion after reading hundreds of reviews that PS failure is just a flip of the coin. Some never have a problem but many do. It's probably best to get a PS with twice the maximum power your unit draws as the harder it has to work the more likely an early failure.

I've been building and servicing computers since kit computers back in the seventies and in the last few years I've had more problems with Power Supplies than any other item in the case. So I took a star off for the failure but Kingwin made it right with no hassle so that makes it worth 4 stars, 5 if you win the coin toss.

After replacing my 600 watt PSU recently, I have had nothing but pure cool performance from this beast. I especially love the ability to use the cables you wish to run (for the most part), reducing the amount of gear inside the case to block air flow. Not to mention it's got a blue LED in the fan. How perfect to make the interior lighting glow with cool blue power?! My computer used to scream when on, now I almost cannot hear it since this massive 140mm fan pumps so much air through the case. I cannot imagine not being able to upgrade my system for many years, since the power supply for the graphics cards and the mobo are top of the line 6-pin and 24-pin respectively. I also did some research and believe I found the capacitors in this device are Japanese, not Chinese, so you know it'll have a long life. Capacitors are everything when it comes to electronic life of solid state components.

I bought this PSU solely because of its high wattage and modular design. I probably should have researched more like I have learned to do now so that I would know there are more than one kind of modular. The thick cable that is non modular contains cables that most every computer is going to use so there is really no sense in them being modular, but for the sake of wire management it can be less convenient to work with. The plugs that go into the PSU have a unique ring design to them that screws them down onto the PSU. I also really like how when the plugs are attached they cause the plastic ring on the PSU to light up; it gives off a really cool appearance.

This PSU is very quiet in operation as I had trouble hearing it over my hard drive, video card, and CPU. The cables could have been sleeved in a solid color instead of the multi colored diamond-esque design that they come with. My last little gripe was that the plugs connecting to the different components are sleeved to a point, and then it is just multicolored wires showing right where they meet the plug; it does take away from the attractive design of the PSU on a whole in my opinion.

I have yet to have any power issues with this PSU, and it is still functioning two years after purchase and near daily use. I own two Kingwin PSU's and both of them work flawlessly. The only word I can give to anyone considering buying this unit is make sure you need this much power! 1000 watts powers quite a bit!

Arrived in pristine shape. It actually had a strange old-shoe smell but it went away after I left it out of the box for a couple of minutes. I cleared out my old power supply so I could SLI my two GTX 460 graphics cards and let me tell you, it was so easy! It came with two cables that I dedicated for the cards specifically- very flexible cables, too, they were the braided cables that aren't flat like the others you find with many modular power supplies. Also they are anchored to the power supply by inserting them into the socket (obviously) and then sealed to it with a screw-like fixture. Probably not the best description but there it is. Since both cards took two six-pin plugs, I looked for a cable with two each. Sure enough, KingWin provided- not only that, the plugs said "PCI-E" clearly labeled, so as not to confuse where they belong. Definitely SLI-ready cable set.

I have everything running at tip top condition and I have faith it'll work just fine. Stellar product!
