Product Description

The game is a side-scrolling platformer, but players can move Kirby to the background and foreground to dodge enemies and solve puzzles. Kirby can also use a new Hypernova ability, which powers up his inhale ability and enables him to suck up everything in his path. The game includes more than 20 different copy abilities, including four new ones created for this game. Kirby: Triple Deluxe also includes two new game modes: Kirby Fighters lets up to four players pick one of 10 copy abilities for their Kirby and then fight to see which is the most effective in battle. Dedede's Drum Dash asks players to press buttons in sync with Kirby music while jumping and collecting coins.

Absolutely full of charm. You will spend the entire time smiling!
I have never played a Kirby game before, so this is my first Kirby experience. I am almost done with Stage 4, 30% completion rate. The first thing that grabbed me were the graphics. This game is so full of color and intricate details! You have a gorgeous background, which you often have to play in. In other words, you have your standard path, but then you will use a warp star to go into the background, or back of the level (far away). You are constantly scanning the background for secret areas or items, it really is fun! I feel like I'm playing in 2 different worlds in each level. The background has a lot of interaction. Enemies will fire at you from the distance, swing back and forth, you have to dodge rotating pendulums, etc.I have not found the game to be that easy at all, Kirby takes a pretty decent hit from enemies and recovery items do not recover that much, and not generously placed (its just right). You cannot simply run through the levels, it takes careful maneuvering if you want to discover all the secrets. If you collect a certain number of "hidden" sunstones you can unlock extra stages. I have immensely enjoyed redoing the stages with differing abilities, hunting down the stones. Normally I do not care to collect everything in games, but I want to with Kirby :)I can do a stage multiple times and its still fun! This surprised me.My personal biggest challenge has been getting the ability I need from 1 stage, surviving it through the next stage where I need it to get to a secret area (You may need bombs from one stage to blow up blocks in another to access a door). However, if you get hit you lose your ability if you cannot swallow it within a few seconds, or it falls off the stage! So I really disagree with any reviews saying its too easy. Maybe for former Kirby players, but I am new.The music is a joy to listen to. It gives me energy and has a sense of urgency, it almost makes me feel like the levels are timed (but is not!).I find myself constantly smiling at the charm and cuteness that is Kirby. While swimming, he wears a floaty and goggles. Of course there is also all the various hats, adding to the cuteness. I am now officially a kirby fan!Edit: I cannot see 3D, so I don't know how good it is. However, some level designs make me feel like enemies and items (like trains) are going to come out of the screen!Random notes: I am an adult female gamer and typically enjoy platformers, some action-rpgs (Castlevania), Pokemon, and survival horror.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe is the latest game in the Kirby series, and the first original Kirby title for Nintendo 3DS. This game presents an excellent platforming experience with content suitable for both casual and intense players. Let's look at the game in detail.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe plays very similarly to most other games in the series. Kirby, the titular pink puffball, proceeds along a 2.5D environment filled with collectibles, sucking up enemies to copy their powers. These include four new copy-abilities: Bell, Archer, Beetle, and Circus, all of which I had a lot of fun using, though I think Archer was my favorite. But with these similarities, don't think this is a mere rehash; you'll notice early on that it's not. The most obvious change is the environments. In the background and foreground, enemies, items, environmental hazards, etc. are found, and often have their attacks shift into Kirby's path. Through the use of 3D Warp Stars, Kirby can shift between the background and foreground to get items, affect the environment, defeat enemies, and solve puzzles. Kirby can even use some items in one part of the level to affect the other part, such as a long pole and a cannon. While not particularly hard like most Kirby games, this concept very fun, well-implemented, and on the perfect hardware. I played this game with the 3D on full blast the whole time, as it just makes the 2.5D environments all the more satisfying. It is this unique level design throughout the game that really sets this game apart from the rest of the series, and side-scrolling platformers in general.

Another major gameplay change is a new ability for Kirby: the Hypernova. This amplifies Kirby's suction power to where he can suck up almost anything, including parts of the environment. This power can also be used to move large, heavy objects to solve puzzles, such as giant snowballs and wrecking balls. Whether used to solve puzzles, eat enemies, take down mini-bosses, or just clear the path, this technique is very fun to use. Additionally, this technique is used a lot throughout the game, so you'll get a lot of experience with it, compared to the Mega Eggdozer in Yoshi's New Island, which was only used here and there, and in very simple ways. All these positives being said, though, there is one thing that bugged me about it: it's a bit too overpowered. There's one point in the game where suped-up versions of mini-bosses are made short work of with the Hypernova. Hypernova is also the only ability that cannot be dropped, even if you die. While overall a fun concept, it just felt too powerful on occasion.

The game's boss battles are some of the best in the series. They all utilize the 2.5D level design that makes the whole game great. Their attacks weave between layers of the area, they shift between these layers, and sometimes you have to shift with them. While I don't want to spoil too much, I will use an obvious boss as an example. While Whispy Woods does not appear, the very similar Flowery Woods does. It starts out seeming simple, but he eventually shifts to the background, and you have to hit his roots when he attacks. Throwing his fruits and flowers at you from the background, you'll need good judgment to avoid these attacks and strike back appropriately. Even for a pretty easy and simple game at first glance, the boss battles are surprisingly-advanced.

To run through the main game, you'll take about 10 hours, more or less. But that's not all this game has to offer. Right from the start, two alternate game modes are available. The first is Kirby Fighters: a fighting mini-game similar to Super Smash Bros. that utilizes different colored Kirbies with a selection of abilities. I had a lot of fun with this mode, and this mode is required to be played for 100%. It has local multiplayer, but I was disappointed by the lack of online play, as this would have been perfect for online. Overall, though, if you have people nearby to play it with, you'll spend a lot of time with this one; it's great! The second mode is Dedede's Drum Dash. This one, I wasn't as impressed by. You play as King Dedede bouncing across drums and collecting coins to the rhythm of the level's theme. While good, it just doesn't have much to it, as some of the stages are ridiculously-unforgiving, and there's not much reason to replay the levels. It just doesn't match quality rhythm games like HarmoKnight. Some other modes are available in the post-game, and while I won't spoil what they are, they add a lot of life to the game, and are very challenging. Overall, these extra modes add quite a bit of content, which, combined with the game's 256 collectible keychains, make getting 100% a very challenging task.

Great level design and boss battles, replay value, a fun but admittedly-overpowered central ability, and our favorite pink puffball come together to form a great game. While I wish the extra modes had some online play, especially Kirby Fighters, the game left me very satisfied. I highly recommend it.

As a kid growing up I had just a handful of Nintendo games, with Kirby's Adventure being one of my favorites. I mastered levels, figured out how to get all the secrets, discovered the best powers for getting through tricky areas. When I saw that Kirby Triple Deluxe was coming out, all I really hoped for was something to feed my nostalgia - but this game is SO much better than that!

Kirby Triple Deluxe is beautiful, from its bright rich colors to its fantastic use of 3D. Traps and enemies come rushing toward the viewer from the background to the foreground, looking like they'll pop right out of the screen. And the background isn't there just as a backdrop - in some areas Kirby can transition to the background and find secrets and goodies. As I scaled levels I wasn't just looking ahead of me, but in to the distance to see what else was available.

Which takes me in to level design. There is much here to feed the nostalgia, but that also makes use of the 3DS's capabilities. There are still plenty of optional puzzles where if you don't have the right power or aren't quick enough or just don't want to, you can skip it, though you'll probably want to come back. It's nice to have that extra challenge when you want it, but it won't frustrate less experienced players since you can leave it for later. The player does have to collect a certain number of "sunstones" in order to keep progressing through levels - in my experience there are enough in plain sight to keep progressing, with some others offering more of a challenge if you want to be a completionist.

I also want to note that Nintendo did a great job of balancing the challenge in this game. Sure, the earlier levels are a walk in the park, but as you go on the challenge starts to ramp up - without ever feeling frustrating or cheap. The greatest risk I found as I progressed was breaking a piece of a puzzle so that I had to come back later to complete it. But when it came to your basic combat and getting through a level, you always know what got you, why, and how to avoid it next time. The bosses are wonderfully designed as well, and well they are more difficult to get through (as bosses should be!), it is reminiscent of an old-school game in that they have patterns and you learn quickly how to avoid the bad and whittle them down.

My nostalgia was well fed with plenty of older enemies and powers, with many new powers added as well. I don't want to spoil any of the new ones because I was so pleasantly surprised every time I found something new, just know that you will find a power you love using and that will suit your playstyle! It also gives you multiple ways to get through the same level - maybe power X will make it easier, but do you need power Y to get in that secret area?

This is a wonderful entry to the series, whether you're trying a Kirby game for the first time, or are a seasoned pro. I found plenty of replayability as well as just pure joy in rediscovering the world of Kirby, and if you enjoy Kirby, platformers, and/or general quirk, I think you'll enjoy Kirby Triple Deluxe as well.

I'm not the biggest Kirby fan, but this game is stupidly fun to play. Kirby is easily one of the funnest platformer characters to play as. You have your basic running, jumping, shooting projectiles, but Kirby has the ability to swallow enemies and absorb their abilities, and he can also inflate and float around. Though the game can be a little challenging, it's not too frustrating.
