Sam works too hard, denying himself love by believing he’s not the marrying kind. When Riley stumbles into his life he finds himself re-evaluating his decisions. He agrees to go as Riley’s date to the wedding and begins letting her into his life.
What turned out as a revenge date turns into something more, as I found myself hoping for as soon as Sam and Riley met. A fun read that had me wishing to be on the beach too.
British transplant Riley Flynn keeps making a terrible impression on her uber-attractive neighbor, Sam Rutherford. So far she’s dented his sports car and doused him with coffee. Why, then, does he offer the out-of-work clutz a job? And why can’t Riley get Sam out of her head?
Sam Rutherford relocated to the Caribbean island of Nevis to start over and for a more laid-back lifestyle. He’s not sure how that’s working for him, with Riley Flynn for a neighbor. So why does he feel so protective towards her and why does every instinct tell him to move closer?
I enjoyed the heroine’s zany character and the love scenes were genuine and fresh. In fact, they upped this read from a four star to a five star for me. Add in a touching ending, and you have a great Valentine’s Day story.
One of my favorite lines from the movie While You Were Sleeping is when Jack, played by Bill Pullman, is describing Lucy, played by Sandra Bullock, and he says, “She drives you so nuts you don’t know whether to hug her or, or just really arm wrestle her.” Riley is a lot like Lucy. She manages to find herself in the oddest predicaments and her only fault is being too nice…and climbing into windows that don’t belong to her. I was laughing out loud throughout this short story.
And then she picked up that innocent sweetheart candy piece. Kiss Me Again. That scene, his voice and the heart melting tension. Whoa! Good stuff!
Magnet to steel? Well, a little more like fiberglass to metal bumpers. I loved the chemistry between these two. Riley is sunshine and chaos and Sam is a one track mind lawyer, until he runs into Riley…okay, she ran into him first, but it was so perfectly timed.
This was fun read. I love a good rom-com and this one hits all the right notes. I would love to read more books from Ms. DeVere. The story is light but has substance and heart and just the right amount of heat for the page count. An easy recommend for readers looking for a quick read that left this reader with a smile.

So this book was, sweet, funny, sexy and with just a twist of sadness to keep you gripped from beginning to end. We have a klutzy heroine who is both beautiful and a walking disaster, but totally fabulous. Then you get the hero who is hot and sexy with a heart of gold, but just wants to be left alone. What entails is a wonderful story of being forced to live once more, and release the grip of past hurts and mistakes. I loved this novella and recommend it to everyone.
The last thing Riley Flynn wants is to be present at her ex-fiancé's Valentine’s Day wedding on a Caribbean beach—which should have been hers—but she refuses to give him the satisfaction, despite the nosedive her life has recently taken. Now she only needs to find a plus one to prove she isn’t a complete failure.
All Sam Rutherford wants is a peaceful life, but his zany neighbor is making it impossible. The woman is a menace to herself, and anyone in her path—he has the dent in his car to prove it. But when she raises those big amber eyes and confides in him, how can he say no to anything she wants? Soon she’s invading his life and bungling her way... into his heart.
She winds up confiding in him that she needs someone to go to her ex’s wedding and she decides he should take her. Sam isn’t so sure but as the story goes on you can tell he starts to fall for her. She has trusts issues and isn’t going to make it easy for him.
Riley is hilarious and does such crazy things. Such as climbing in Sam’s window because she thought someone was breaking in. She sees the mess of his office and decides to organize it for him. He is shocked to see her sleeping in his office with it all organized. Riley is shocked to see Sam standing in front of her nude. He forgot he didn’t have any clothes on.
Sam becomes her hero hiring her to work in his office. He has a hard time working with her distracting him. Riley had a hard time fighting the attraction also. They both give in to their lust.
What a great romance you won’t want to miss out on.
I highly recommend it.
