I absolutely love Julianne MacLean's books. Her writing is so fluid and evokes the most wonderful images.
The story of Adelaide and William finally getting it together and running away was a sweet little addition to the series. Despite it's brevity it was full of emotion and warmth. I just loved it.

This is not worth $.99 for 48 pages. No time for character development to put it mildly. My first book of the series on the Palace was A Kiss at Midnight, which I loved. The main character's from this book are in A Kiss at Midnight. Buy the bundle which includes 3 books, and worth the price and you get to know all about the character's and how their lives turn out. I am only writing this, so people know if you buy just this story because it is $.99, you will be left hanging and not knowing what truly happens. (ljb)

I really enjoyed this novella but it built up and then was just to fast to end without the proper feeling of being complete!

First she's stressed that she's to marry a man she doesn't know and longs for the man she's known since childhood and loved almost that long. Second he shows up, but her father locks her in her room to keep her from meeting again (they already talked briefly once before) and PRESTO--they are married from the window of her room
and run off to Italy where he will become a Dr. BUT there is not enough conflict before the end , and it's to abrupt an ending--to "pat" in my opinion.

I don't know. I felt like I was reading a book written by a 5 years old. Too short and should be part of first or maybe 6th book. I liked 2 first books in the series. Did not care about book 3 and 4. Not sure if I want to read 6th.

Historical Regency . Novella. Hero is Thomas . Heroine is Adeline.
This is a pre short novella that tells a story about the duchess for the Pembroke series . Even though you see the Duchess in the series this story is before Adeline is married to the Duke .
Adeline and Thomas have loved each other since they were young . Thomas had thought that Adeline knew how he felt and an understand that he meant to marry her . Thomas went to Italy to study .
Adeline is the only one of her fathers daughter that is not Wed. One of her sisters is married to a Baron and the other is married to a younger son (a Vicar ) . One night the Duke sees Adeline at a ball and he is Smitten . After a few short meetings at a ball and a ride they are promised to each other .
Adeline feels that she should write Thomas and tell him . So she does .
One night in Italy Thomas feels that he can't believe how time has passed . Thomas wants to go to England and see Adeline but that night he receives a letter from Adeline advising that she will marry the Duke . Thomas packs that night hoping he is in time to stop the wedding . Does he .
Grab the rest of the stores and read about the family . It's not a given till years later

This novella was not long enough to become emotionally attached to the characters. I never saw the duke, but for some reason I was rooting for him. The main characters were unremarkable and quite self centered, thoughtless of who they would hurt.

After gobbling down Married by Midnight, I was delighted to find A Kiss Before the Wedding, and step back in time to read about Adelaide and William when they were young. It's poignant to watch them make the mistakes of youth, knowing from the other books in the Pembroke Palace series some of the consequences they will face. At the same time it adds a depth of understanding to events ... and leaves hope that they will find happiness together.

Lady Adelaide is having second thoughts before her marriage to the Duke of Pembroke. Should she follow her duty or her heart? Adelaide is sweet, and as indecisive as any young bride who doesn't know her groom very well would be. William is deeply committed to her. And as for the duke? Do we have a little Team William/Team Theodore happening here?

For anyone who hasn't read the Pembroke Palace series, this is a great introduction. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!
