By Janelle Taylor
In this wonderful short, Carrie Sue Stover Jamison is left waiting for her beloved husband to come home for their first Christmas together while he is out as a Colorado Marshall hunting down armed bank robbers that harmed a little girl in their town.
Carrie Sue Stover Jamison is a former outlaw herself. Seven years she spent on the run with her brother's gang. They had tried desperately not to harm anyone during their careers as outlaws, as a result when caught by Thad J. Jamison, Texas Ranger and Special Agent to the President of the United States, she had been pardoned by the President with the stipulation that Thad become a Marshall for Gates, Colorado. They had bought a small farm and set up house, now their first Christmas was upon them and just days after he got back from helping with some miners in the next county over, he was heading out again.
Thad J. Jamison had loved being a Texas Ranger and Special Agent for the President, but now he had his Carrie Sue and all he wanted was to settle down to ranching with her. The little girl that was shot was the daughter of two of their dear friends, and there was nobody else to go after these bank robbers that had been wanted for a very long time, so at dawn's first light off he went, hoping to be home by Christmas.
Personally I thought this book moved rather slowly, staying strictly with Carrie Sue's point of view as she moved from project to project over the course of a week leading to Christmas. Maybe because I didn't read the book in before it, I found this book to almost maudlin in her worrying over her past and how it was always going to affect their future.
Two wonderful Christmas surprises came into play at the end, along with the secret she had been keeping herself. The writing was good, the story line could have moved a little faster, or different if even an evening had been spent from Thad's point of view on the trail. Four stars for this Christmas tale, again it w=probably would have much better if I had read the book before it.
Very good character development and it was as though I were going through coping and the daily chores with Carrie Sue as she waits for Thad to return from an assignment, hopefully by Christmas.
Not a very long book but very enjoyable read.
Carrie Sue and Thad are a wonderful couple and the Christmas joy is such a gift to them and the reader.
It's hard to admit, but I'm very glad I wasn't living during those 'tough times!' Her daily chores exhausted me, but energized Carrie Sue.
Loved the fact that Thad did more than his best to bring his wife a truly joyous Christmas...and I won't spoil his present for you.
Don't hesitate to download this novella and then wispernet Janelle Taylor's full length novels into your Kindle for reading enjoyment.
Also, whenever she left the house, I kept waiting for something interesting to happen. It never did.
