CAN LOVE FIND A WAY... EVEN FOR VAMPIRES?
According to Balkan folklore a Dhampir is the child of a vampire and a human. This child has the same abilities as a vampire but not the associated weaknesses. The Dhampir in this story is expected to be born a male, but is actually born a female.
This female is named Marissa. Marissa's mother dies in childbirth, and she is raised by a society called The Daybreak Society, under the guidance of its Director, Reece. This society is publicly one which is "dedicated to helping homeless, destitute and abused women and children." However the reality is much different. The society was in fact "founded to fight the undead. The deaths of destitute, homeless and abused women and children were most often the best indicator of vampiric activity because they were often the preferred victims."
Marissa is cared for by the society, but she is also trained over the years to take care of herself, and to kill vampires. Throughout her stay with the society she is looked after by a nurse, Iris, who treats her like a daughter. Iris also allows Marissa to take blood from her when the vampire side of her starts to become more prevalent when she turns 12.
Marissa eventually discovers that she has the power to kill vampires with a very simple thing - a kiss. This makes it so much easier to kill those she goes after. Around the same time her relationship with Director Reece takes a different path, and she finds out a huge secret which he has been keeping from everyone for years.
On discovering this secret Marissa's life changes totally, and she finds herself on her own. She leaves the security and safety of the only home she has ever known and travels far and wide, trying to escape the attentions of the Society. On these travels she meets an older Dhampir who tells her of a prophecy. She also trains Marissa even more to prepare her for the future trials she is sure to endure.
For a novella the author has managed to pack a lot into this story. Marissa goes through a lot in it, and there are more than a few twists and turns. Each time I thought she had gone through enough something else was thrown into the mix.
Yet again a great story from this author, combining a short read with enough in its pages to keep the reader gripped. I cannot wait to see what comes next from the author!
Marissa is a Dhampir half human, half vampire born to a human mother after a vampire attack. Her mother dies leaving her in the care of a group of individuals called The Daybreak Society, who are led by a powerful man named Reece. Eventually Marissa agrees to marry him and does so only to discover that not everything is as it seems. She is a powerful vampire hunter, but in a moment of weakness she lets badness into her life and winds up on the run. Marissa begins to discover secrets about herself and those around her and learns of a legend that might be her future.
"A female dhampir will come, an accomplished vampire killer, a woman of incredible beauty, power and intelligence, who will find her destined mate among the vampires. He will be a man of magnetism, of sensuality and power, enough to match the dhampir, perhaps even stronger. He will be immune to her powers and she will be immune to his. And they will love each other, beyond all doubt, beyond all reason. One will die for the other and the survivor will go on, with all the powers of both, the most powerful being ever to walk the earth."
On the run she meets Gabriel a very powerful vampire who she is immediately and undeniably attracted to... but she's been raised to kill vampires, is it possible for her to love one?
I have really mixed feelings about this book. I found it to be a little choppy and the flow seemed a bit off while at the same time I found the characters engaging and parts of the storyline really interesting. Marissa was a bad @$$ and I loved seeing her kick vampire booty. Gabriel is a sweet protective vampire with a temper you don't want to mess with. I really would encourage someone who enjoys paranormal to check this one out, you won't be disappointed.

The book starts off of when Marissa is born and jumps to bits and pieces of her going up into a young women whom is raised by the Daybreak Society to slay vampires, but that all goes to hell after she marries the head leader of the society and before you know it Marissa is running for her life.
I liked that there were some really hot sexy men in this story that I just couldn't get enough of,like the hot and sexy vampire Gabriel,he's totally hot with big muscles as well as tall dark, handsome and mysterious. There were a few things about the book I didn't like, first is the cover. If I were in a book store I would have looked right over it, it's just not very appealing to the eye. second is,it would have been nice if the book was not so fast paced, other then this I really enjoyed the book. I give Kiss of the Dhampir a rating of 3 out of 5.
