Disappointing; immature, but Kylie IS still the best!
on June 15, 2014
After her best album since her PWL days, Aphrodite, I had big expectations after the phenomenal lead-off single, Into the Blue, but this album is disappointing. The change in her management has shown through, and I think this album is geared more for the American market.
The majority of Kiss Me Once just doesn't seem like Kylie. I was rooting for the second single to do well, mainly because she deserves it here in America, and it looks like I Was Gonna Cancel has flopped. Barely breaking the top 60 in the U.K., and as of this review is only at #46 on the Billboard Club Chart. I can't blame her for the management change, since it's possible she thought she was going to go far as she could up through Aphrodite, and I was surprised Timebomb was not a massive hit all over the world, though it definitely was a moderate one.
Here we have some missteps with Sexercize, If Only, Fine, and how many songs have to have sex in the title on one album. Don't get me wrong, most all of the songs on the albums are catchy, but Kylie is now 46, not 26. Where on Aphrodite every song was practically perfect and spot on Kylie, Kiss Me Once is not; however, I think fans of Body Language should definitely like this album.
There are some great stand out tracks:
Into the Blue
Kiss me Once
Feels So Good
Sexy Love reminds me a ton of Love At First Sight, and would be an awesome third single, because it feels like a perfect song for summertime. Beautiful is a very interesting ballad, and I love it. Kiss Me Once and Feels so Good are interesting tracks for Kylie, and I wish more were like these. I can't help thinking of one of my favorite Kylie tracks (and Hazell Dean), Turn It Into Love, when I hear Kiss Me Once.
I've listened to this album a ton before I was going to review it, and I've given it every chance I can, but I hope she goes back to being Kylie on her 13th album. I also hope that I Was Gonna Cancel can gain some steam, but I think it's already run out. Rooting for Sexy Love as the third single!
I know you'll comeback, Kylie. I love you!
