I sure do hope this series of books continues because I have to know if the remaining brothers get rescued too. The book is a page turner from beginning to end for me. I kept telling myself just one more page and one more chapter. I'm a fan of this author's works. For me, what made the story so relatable was the characters. I could make many paragraphs just about the characters. Honestly, the characters really struggled with themselves and those around them. I love stories like this because the create an element of the unknown which makes me hungry for more. I will definitely read what this author puts out.
It has been years since I read the first two books in the Phantom series so when I originally started this book I had to stop and go back and reread the first two to refresh my memory. I am glad I did because it gave me a chance to rekindle my attachment to a lot of the characters.
This third book is definitely my favorite. I love Mariah's spirit and her tough outer shell. I loved reading about her and Rafe and watching him page by page melt her icy heart. The heat between the two is incredible and their lead up to happily ever after realistic and exciting. They both have a past with baggage that adds to paths they select when dealing with each other, emotionally, it gave the story depth and added a layer of believability to their relationship.
I really enjoy the magic and the glimpses of the old Romani Village, Valoren, that Rafe and his family come from. If you haven't read the first two books in this series, I strongly suggest you do so. They are all connected and characters appear and reappear in each book. Had I not read them I really feel like I would have felt a little lost or at least like I was missing out while reading this one.
Some things were left up in the air at the end of this book, and I find myself wishing I had a book four in my hands. I don't feel like I have all the closure I need to have with some of the other characters like Ben and Cat, Gemma and Paxton and finally Rogan and Sarina.Read more ›
When she touches the stone, she is shocked. Her caress releases Rafe Forsyth from his rock imprisonment; he and his brothers were incarcerated inside of stone by dark mage Rogan. Needing to provide priceless coins to a dangerous collector she foolishly agreed to work for, Mariah makes a deal with Rafe. She will help him get fully freed from his imprisonment and not just his current nocturnal liberty if in return he helps her find valuable loot to pay her debt. Besides her treacherous client, neither is aware of an enemy of Rafe coming to kill both of them.
The third Phantom urban romantic fantasy (see PHANTOM'S TOUCH and PHANTOM PLEASURES) is an engaging tale due to the lead female, a gender bending rogue who at a minimum stretches the boundaries of the law and ethics. The story line is fast-paced from the moment Mariah touches the prison stone and never slows as she and Rafe take the audience on a series of misadventures as love may not be enough to set him free.
The pace is fast, the action never stops, and there are surprises at every turn. I really enjoyed the romance between these two characters, and was rooting for them to find their happy-ever-after. This one is definitely a keeper, and the entire series is unique and fresh.
