Amooi has become one of the writers I follow, even though Romance is not my favorite genre. This is the third comedy in a row that I've read from him, and I've given them all 5 stars in my reviews. His books leave me wanting more stories like these. Congrats Mr. Amooi, you can be proud of this new story. I will recommend it to everyone I know.
The next day, more noise emits from the neighbor. Sara makes her way over to the neighbor's front door and realizes the plants have been replaced. The dog notices as well and helps himself to the plants again.
After many failed attempts at dating, in search of a date for her friends wedding, the neighbor agrees to 'pretend' date Sara. Except he wasn't pretending. He convinces her that they need to attend his grandparent's anniversary party, using the ploy that if they can convince them they are dating, they would be able to convince the friends at the wedding.
Just before the anniversary party takes place, Sara's dog strikes again. This time, knocking over the priceless handmade lighthouse that Ian (the neighbor) had created as a gift for his grandparents. Ian shouts at the dog and Sara. Sara gets upset and leaves. She drives three hours one way to buy the only known replica of said lighthouse for Ian's grandparents. She delivers the gift and takes off for a few days to clear her head.
In the meantime, Ian scrambles to find the perfect gift for his grandparents. While at the party, he is reminded about true love.
Sara returns from her trip because another friend tells her she is getting married and she needs her to be there as her maid of honor. Turns out Sara's friend is marrying Ian's best friend. The first thing she notices is a For Sale sign out front of Ian's place. He has moved. During the wedding reception, Ian and Sara have a conversation and all is well again.
This was a quick and easy read. Well written with just the right amount of humor.
The story is a "clip" in the crazy dating/love life of twenty-somethings, though their experiences could apply to any age-group. I liked the characters, although I could have been annoyed with them for their "underdeveloped maturity" in their approach to dating and love - after all, they aren't teenagers any more. Considering how the main characters weren't even truly dating, the story Although the story concluded well and satisfactorily, it seemed to wrap-up too quickly, considering that the main characters weren't truly dating. It was truly an energetic and fun story.
I like the idea that this is a love story written from a male perspective. It has just the correct amount of love and romance without being soppy and it also doesn't rely on sex scenes to keep the reader interested.
The idea that the frog had to be kissed so that he could turn into a prince nearly drove Sara scatty but she had been badly let down by her previous boyfriend in a similar scenario and so rather subscribed to a dating service and tried desperately to pretend that her feelings for her prince didn't exist.
Ryan Kennard Burke does a good job of narration and has a pleasant and easy to listen to voice.
All in all a very enjoyable experience.
