Top Customer Reviews
The first time I tried it, I ground a pound and a half of chuck with a slice of bacon cut up and thrown into the grinder at what I thought were strategic points for even distribution. What resulted were THE BEST BURGERS EVER! They were inarguably and incontestably better than any burger I'd ever made at home, no matter what recipe I'd ever tried. My sister and brother-in-law ordered one the day after having one of my "new" burgers.
And it was so easy! The most work was slicing the chuck into strips so that it would feed into the grinder with ease. I will never go back to storeground meat. Those burgers are just not worthy anymore.
At this point, I see no reason to upgrade to a more expensive grinder when this little one does the trick so well. Because the unit is plastic, it would probably not be advisable to force the grinder, but that has not been an issue I've encountered.
This very easily and very quickly grinds 5 or more pounds of meat in a single session. Set up is very easy and even with good amounts of connective tissue and gristle, there's very little effort required to turn the crank.
Clean up is the only downside to this. The grooves along the tube of the grinder get filled and it's difficult to get all of the meat out. It becomes almost impossible if you don't wash it right way. Other than that small issue, the grinder comes completely apart and it's relatively easy otherwise to get every piece of it cleaned and disinfected. I have not washed this in the dishwasher so I cannot attest to that.
Meat we've ground:
Chicken breast / thighs
At the present, I have no desire for any other meat grinder.
In the centre of the locking handle there is a circle of different plastic. Carefully(!!) pry this out with a corkscrew or knife, to reveal a Phillips screw to be removed. The handle should come off too. Looking inside the handle reveals that the plastic inside has snapped (See image).
Once the handle is removed you should see a square block the handle was meant to turn. This can then be turned with a wrench to lock/unlock the grinder (see other image). The wrench doesn't need to be in place during grinding.
