The auto-shutoff was way too fast for me at 2 minutes. It was constantly going off when a recipe required me to step away. After some research I found the instructions on how to change the auto time:
1. Turn the scale off.
2. Press "POWER" and "HOLD" buttons down at the SAME TIME and DON'T LET UP until the display reads "Nb 0", "Nb 1", or "Nb 2". This is the weight response speed ("Nb 0" is slowest, "Nb 1" is the default).
3. Press "MODE" to toggle between them.
4. Press "TARE" to select.
5. The display will now read "OFF 0", "OFF 1", or "OFF 2".
6. Press "MODE" to toggle between them. OFF O = auto shutoff disabled, "OFF 1" = 2 minutes, "OFF 2" = 5 minutes.
7. Press "TARE" to select your choice.
The display will return to normal and your done!
Whoever decided on the auto-shutoff duration needs to be beaten, drawn and quartered, hung, shot a few times, and then maybe something really bad! The scale's features (detailed below) are outstanding, BUT the darn thing shuts itself off in the middle of everything. I'm hoping this is only because it is on battery now (I order the AC adaptor but it was shipped separately), and that it will not auto-shutoff once it is on AC power.
***** UPDATE ***** Just as I was about to return the scale I discovered how to disable AUTO OFF (Page 3 of the manual). MY fault for not reading the whole thing (hanging head in shame). I now upgraded this scale to FIVE STARS. ***** (But I'm still mad it was set to 2 minutes by default.)
The scale can be set to Grams, Kilograms, Pounds, Ounces, and Pounds/Ounces. I use it in straight ounces or grams. The scale weights up to 8000 grams (8.0 kg or about 17.6 pounds). More than enough for all recipes including the weight of a bowl. It also weighs down to .05 ounces - excellent for precise weight measurements.
Once nice feature is the percentage function. This allows you to scale up (or down) recipes automatically.
The TARE function (i.e. Zero out the scale to allow for the weight of a bowl) is great and instantaneous. Press it and boom, it's zero! (On my old scale you had to hold the TARE button for 2 seconds - hated that.) This is extremely helpful when I portion out food for storage for future meals - I take xx ounces out, reset to 0 (TARE), take xx ounces out, etc.
The two switches on the bottom are not labeled, but no big deal. One turns on the back light - a must have, and the other turns on the key beeps. I like them to beep. Not to hard to figure out which is which.
All in all an excellent scale, EXCEPT for the auto off duration (2 minutes), but you can turn it off, or set it to 5 minutes.
