One thing I wish was clearer: the santoku knife came in the smallest size available, comparable to the paring knife. Because I was browsing so many knife sets in the same sitting, I didn't look closely enough at the worded sizes, and went instead off the pictures. The santoku in the images appeared to be the 7 inch blade, but the 3 1/2 inch blade is what comes in the set. This isn't a huge deal, I was just surprised when the blade was much smaller than I'd imagined.
I am beyond excited to have these knives, the kitchen shears, and the sharpening steel in my home! The block is solid and not easily bumped around on my counter. All the knives are full tang, and feel very sturdy. The utensils clean up easily in the sink (I don't have a dishwasher, so cannot attest to that. My advice is wash them by hand even if you have the appliance; it's fast, easy, and better for the blades!), and dried without a spot. What I've used so far has felt great in my hands, has cut smoothly, and cleaned beautifully. I can't wait to try the rest of the knives, and for the price, I would wholeheartedly reccommend this KitchenAid set to anyone who is searching for a great addition to their kitchen!
However, the bid that the knives were in (not the shipping box) was absolutely wrecked. The block was missing one of its feet, that I didn't not see anywhere else in the box, which was mildly annoying. Beyond those issues, it is actually a pretty decent knife set. It doesn't have some of the extras of a larger knife set, but for the price, I cannot complain about these. The knives are sharp and are well made.
The only thing I wished I had noticed prior to buying is that they cannot be washed in the dishwasher, but that is hardly a deal breaker.
However, I feel that the knives dull very quickly and even with hand washing them they are already developing rust spots.
We had our last knife set for 6 years and it never had these problems. For a Kitchen Aid product I expected much higher quality than this.
