The part gets four stars but I'm deducting one for the hella awful instructions. The coupling screws on to a round piece of metal that is impossible to stabilize if you aren't aware that it has a flat side. Amazon sells the part with a special tool that looks like a wrench and holds the coupling still so you can unscrew it. Many people have reported giving up and reordering the part with the tool after several frustrating attempts to remove the couple with a screw driver, per the instructions that come with the part. Well, I'm here to tell you that you don't need the tool or even brute strength. You just need to stabilize the pole by jamming a flat head screwdriver up against it to keep it from turning. The instructions state that you're supposed to bend the coupling up with a screwdriver and turn, lifting it higher with each turn. After several attempts at lifting and turning as per the instructions, I decided to take a really close look at the assembly. I saw the flat side and immediately realized why I was having so much trouble. The old coupling came off in two short twists.

This part number 9704230 does work on the older style blenders, mine is KSB5BU and this coupling fit just fine. See youtube on how to remove, very easy. The 2-pack is actually 2 separate packages.

First, let me say, don't ever try to use your Kitchenaid blender with hot food or your plastic coupling will melt. We made a reductions sauce with some fruit and after it had been cooking for a bit we threw it in the blender. That was bad. Real bad. Don't do it.

Luckily, I searched for replacement parts and found these. I was very happy about that because I did not want to have to buy a whole new blender. This one fit perfectly and I now have my blender back. Very happy.

Wife complained of blender failure after packing it with large ice cubes. After calm discussion about proper loading, referring to previous calm discussions about dishwasher loading, appropriate garbage disposal items, etc., I took a look at it and quickly noted that this rubbery coupling thing was stripped down to little nubs. I was absolutely amazed to find that the replacement part was: 1. readily available, and 2. reasonably priced. Not only that, you don't need any special tools to replace it (they designed it so you can basically pry the old one off without destroying anything.)

Highest rating. Not least because it will avoid any more calm discussions. On this subject, anyway.

I watched the youtube videos on replacing these. The "spin it off with a hammer and screwdriver" method didn't work, my motor spun too easily. Perhaps this is due to the blenders age. I used the "pry it off method" which took a little effort but it got the job done. I checked the threads and spun the new one one, piece of cake... I had cut a slot in the bag to remove the one I used and sealed it shut with some clear packing tape and threw the spare in the kitchen junk drawer (you know we all have a junk drawer don't you). This should keep it from drying out so it will be in good shape when I need it. Some people complain the new one isn't the same material as the original but I think they don't realize how age effected the old one. Don't waste your money buying the one with the tool, you don;t need it.

Great product. Very easy to install. Blender now just like new. Very happy to find this product via Amazon. I saved a lot of money fixing my old blender rather than buying a new one.

Installation wasn't too bad but quite a task. I was happy to get the mixer working again but something was amiss when i started blending- a strange squealing noise emitted from the base. As I moved the container ever so slightly, the noise would change. I suspect the coupling may not meet the OEM specs exactly. The rubber coupling also does not appear to be the same composition/formulation. The original coupling was more rigid and polished seemingly denser. Not so with the replacement. Does it get the job done? Sure, but put those ear plugs in and be ready for your family to vacate the premises!

I ruined my blender and shaved off the teeth on the coupler. Glad I was able to get a replacement part and that it was easy is easy to remove and install. I watched a YouTube video on how to remove the old and install the new coupler, then I ordered the part. YouTube video was much better than any paper instructions. I easily installed it when it arrived.
