Top Customer Reviews
I've down graded the KitchenAid 13-cup food processor to a three star rating. The reason being is the variable slice feature does not work well. The food slicer does not/ can not thinly slice potatoes or onions. I've tried several times to use the variable slice feature to do both. The reason why I like using a food processor is to do both.
UPDATED REVIEW NOVEMBER 23, 2015
Tonight I used the KitchenAid food processor to chop up 1 1/2 pounds of beef. The food processor easily chopped up the beef and did not wimp out. The motor still produces an annoying whine, but it works. The rest of the review is below.
I purchased the KitchenAid 13-Cup Food Processor from Amazon Warehouse Deals as my last Cuisinart purchased in 2009 has never, ever worked right. My purchase of the Cuisinart FP-14 Elite Collection 14-Cup Food Processor, White was a terrible mistake as the food processor managed to go through a work bowl, lid and spindle within two years of purchase. The Cuisinart Elite Food Processor was far from elite when it came to durability. It also had the nasty habit of collecting bits of food in the gasket.
After my poor experience with the Cuisinart, I thought I'd try the KitchenAid food processor. I've only used the KitchenAid a few times and I don't expect this food processor to last long either. At least the KA food processor was cheap.
The KA food processor seems cheaply made for the following reasons:
*The external spindle is made of plastic. The spindle projects from the base of the food processor and is used to hold the knife blade or attachments. The Cuisinart had a metal spindle that was coated in plastic. (That's what broke on my Cusinart in case you are interested).
*There is an external gear at the base that is probably used to adjust the slicing disk. The gear is made of plastic.
*The KA food processor seems to have a sturdy motor as it easily processed both quick and yeast bread doughs. The motor does have an annoying whine when in use.
*The food KA food processor bowl and parts are to be washed on the top rack of the dishwasher and in a "normal" dishwashing cycle, according to the booklet directions. I suspect this translates to the plastic bowl and parts are fragile. I hope the parts don't break just after the warranty expires.
*The food processor booklet contains no recipes. If you are new to using a food processor this is a drawback. Fortunately I've used a food processor for many years and have plenty of recipes.
*There is an external control that allows you to adjust slicing thickness.
*The food processor comes with a slicing disk and grating disk.
*The touchpad is easy to clean.
*The food processor easily handled almost 3 cups of flour to make a loaf of yeast bread.
*I like the Empire Red color as it provides a touch of color in my kitchen.
*KitchenAid does offer a hassle-free 1 year warranty on this product when bought new. As I bought mine through Warehouse Deals I purchased a warranty for just under $15 to cover any potential warranty issues.
Recommend with caveats given.
Not to mention it has a terrible motor. Used it for 2-3 blends and stopped working.
