I had been through several brands in looking for a toaster that makes good toast. Kind of amazing that is so hard to find, but it is. This one fits that bill.
I had read the reviews that complained about the toast lever on this one being hard to push down. I thought I could live with that and I did, for a couple of months. It really does take a lot of pressure to push the lever far enough down to engage it, to the point that you need to steady the back of the toaster with one hand while pushing down with the other. Otherwise, the toaster is liable to flip forward. But like I said, it makes good toast, so I put up with it.
Yesterday, when pushing the lever down like I normally do, the lever broke off. Well, no toast for breakfast!
I called KitchenAid, and they were quick to apologize. Said they would send me a new toaster, but that they were back - ordered for two to four weeks. That is too long to go without toast for breakfast.
Knowing that I would likely be faced with another toaster that took two hands to operate, I asked about the possibility of receiving credit for the original toaster and applying that toward the more expensive model that uses the push button to operate. They agreed to that, so that is where I'm at, hopefully to receive the new toaster in a matter of days, rather than weeks.
If the push button model does make good toast, I'll be happy. Until then, my search for the perfect toaster continues...
