If there is any drawback to this toaster it might be that it's much slower than other toasters I've had. However, my toasters that were quicker left the toast soggy in the middle and very crispy on the outside. There may be a very good reason for the slow-toasting of this Kitchen Aid as the toast is not soggy in the middle. A hundred bucks is a lot of money for a toaster, but then again, you really do get what you pay for.
SPOKE TOO SOON! I've now had this a little under 6 months, paid $100 for it, and it has issues. The little metal screens that come up to hold the toast in the middle started failing on one slot after two months, days past the warranty. Now, less than six months of using it and three out of the four slots are not working correctly; they grab the toast when you first pull down the little handles, but as soon as you release the handle, the side stop grabbing the bread and it just tilts to one side.
This toaster is in my home, and is used only by two adults over 60; it hasn't been abused. Very disappointing for both an expensive toaster and a Kitchen Aid product.
UPDATE: Spoke with Kitchen Aid about the issues with my toaster on June 8th, and guess what? They sent me a brand new toaster that arrived today, June 12!

Appearance: 10/10 - This thing looks great, there's no disputing that.
Features: 3/10 - Although it does feature a visual LCD readout and various modes such as defrost, reheat, and "bagel," the annoying audible ending-beep is a real annoyance (and can't be turned off or turned down).
Toasting Ability: 1/10 - As demonstrated in the video (look at the LCD readout at the time the first toaster finishes), I have time (with the G.E. two slice Toaster) to cook two individual slices two times in the time it takes the KitchenAid four slice toaster to get done. Which pretty much defeats the purpose of a four slice toaster. And the end product is questionably worse (drier) in the end.
Overall 1/10 - Good looks can only get you so far. When an appliance performs poorly at the one thing that it's designed to do, all the good looks in the world couldn't save it from a negative recommendation.
Toasting is the 50 yard dash of the culinary world. It's not about endurance, but raw speed and power. And sometimes, slow and steady does not win the race Mr. Turtle...
Look, just TOAST BREAD, okay? We don't need to marvel at how much crap you can add to a simple kitchen appliance.
Really, do NOT buy this toaster. Just don't. I swear, you'll wish you had taosted your bread with a bic lighter instead. That would be faster, and more thorough.
The numerical settings for toastiness is a great system. The toast or bagle is toasted all over. There are no gaps in the toasting and it just works great.
BUY this machine. You wil NOT be dissappointed
Well, I hate to say it but I don't like this toaster as much as I love my mother's Black and Decker. I've given it a few weeks' use and still can't figure out how not to burn the toast. It seems that #3 is too light and #4 is too dark but there's no way to really go in between. Our kids have burned every single toaster strudel and pop tart that they've made and the waffles from the freezer just don't come out quite right. The noise is also very loud. It's true that KA makes a wicked blender and mixer but that doesn't necessarily make them good toaster makers. Oh well~ it matches my kitchen so we'll keep it until it dies or until my husband has had enough.

Wonderful toaster. Bought two of them. It does toast of all sizes, bagells, defrosts, and reheats. You can adjust the doneness as well.Published 3 months ago by Sedviga
