Functions Great but Broke 19 Months After Purchase

I bought this slow cooker after reading a very positive Cooks Illustrated review. I've used it about once a week since I purchased it Jan. 1, 2015. About a week ago, the black part of the base separated from the main part of the slow cooker. I've treated the slow cooker gently and it's never been dropped, etc. It looked as if the parts that held the black base to the chrome heating element had broken off, and there was no way to tighten them. It looks like a defect in the design.I sent in a request to KitchenAid customer service and received the following email:"I am sorry to hear that your slow cooker came apart and can certainly understand your concern. However, it is no longer covered under the one year warranty. I apologize for any disappointment this may be to you. We can offer you a discount on a new cooker. They normally retail for $129.99, but we can reduce that to $99.99 today. If you would like to accept the offer, please call our number below so a representative can adjust the price for you."Note: I can purchase a brand new version for $84.72 on Amazon as of today. I'm very unhappy with the product and KitchenAid customer service.

If you would like to accept the offer, please call our number below so a representative can adjust the price for you."
Note: I can purchase a brand new version for $84.72 on Amazon as of today. I'm very unhappy with the product and KitchenAid customer service.

Product arrived out of the box with pictured defects. Also could not get temp to work right. Recipe slow cook said 6 hrs at low temp. I did 7 hrs at medium temp and still had to cook in over for 45 minutes.
