All the superlatives about Kitchen Aid mixers are true. I've made bread dough and pizza dough in a snap using this mixer. There's a recipe I've made for years (for Oatmeal cookies with nuts) that makes a very stiff dough and it was incredible for the first time to dump in the ingredients, flip the switch on and do other things like getting out the cookie sheets, while the Kitchen Aid did the heavy work.
It's beautiful (LOVE this pretty blue color in my otherwise white kitchen) and cleans up easily. It's powerful and sturdy.
I DID follow that popular suggestion about putting a dime in the bottom of the mixer bowl and adjusting until it was moved just a little bit each time. (Look that up on YouTube if you don't know what I'm referring to.) That was cool, to get to know my machine better and know that I can adjust it in case there's a problem in the future.
Can I also add that I'd waited for years to buy this for myself because I thought they were SO expensive but one day I was just daydreaming on Amazon and I found on that was almost half the normal price so I snatched it up immediately. When it arrived, it was brand new and gorgeous and worked perfectly. If you're dreaming of a Kitchen Aid of your own, check the prices once in a while and you might be surprised. :-)
There was a KitchenAid mixer in my kitchen when I was growing up and it was the only mixer I ever knew or used, leaving me sorely disappointed in the many mixers I've burned through over the years. Mixers I couldn't do much more with than mix cake batter or mashed potatoes. Even those hand mixers that had claims to be able to mix dough for cookies or bread would eventually just stop working more often sooner than later. I watched several YouTube videos that compared this mixer and others other pricier stand mixers. The KitchenAid out performed them all or was neck in neck with an even more expensive stand mixer. I wanted to make sure it was worth the extra money over less expensive stand mixers. It is.
The Artisan has better torque making it even better for mixing bread dough. One thing I suggest is to hold the top of the mixer down when mixing a heavy bread dough as it tends to vibrate a lot and can unlock the motor head. It's the greatest for mixing up any kind of cookie dough and is the best for whipping up egg whites into stiff white peaks or mashed potatoes.
The handle on the side of the mixing bowl makes it easier to hold onto the bowl when pouring out batters or removing whatever I've mixed and putting it into something else like serving bowls. The pouring shield makes it a breeze to add ingredients while the mixer is in operation without back splatter. It makes it so much easier to make my own all organic GMO-Free bread. And I got the Ice Cream Maker Attachment so I can make my own organic ice cream and sorbet too.
I have to tell you that this thing is built like a tank. When I was tipping the mixer over on to get the model and serial numbers off the sticker on the bottom, the mixer slipped and fell on it's side. My heart sank after I lifted it back up and saw a little mark on the motor head and was sure I had dented and marred the finish. I was so afraid that I'd damaged it's finish and didn't even have it in my home for an hour yet. The joy I experienced when the mark wiped right off with a damp cloth and saw no dents or scratches can't be expressed. It was still lookin' good. :)
I simply love, love, love my dream machine!
1) gingerbread was a little too much for it. But I think I should have seen that one coming, ginger bread is brutal to mix with a cement mixer.
2) When I got mine, the motor was throwing tiny sparks inside. They replaced it immediately, and returning it was a breeze! My second one arrived so quickly, and it is perfect. No idea what had happened with the first. I didn't even use it, just turned it on. But hey, fixed!
3) This blue is super cool. Strongly recommend. Mostly, because my mom also had this color in her kitchen when I was growing up. And actually now too, since the same mixer is still making cookies!

The only comment is that it is heavy. I had made a place for it on a shelf in the basement but given the weight, have just kept it on the counter. The nice thing it is very nice looking. The grip on the bottom is amazing but don't plan to slide it across the counter to get it closer to you as it won't budge.
Given my daughter is 13, she has found it easy to use. Would highly recommend.
