Not only does this appliance work as a mixer (it comes with a beater, whisk, and very useful dough hook), but I also use it constantly with the KitchenAid ice cream attachment. I keep the ice cream bowl in my freezer and just pop it on the mixer when I'm ready to use. The KitchenAid pasta attachment is also easy to use with the mixer as is the meat grinder.
This mixer does the work for you and will make cooking and baking so much easier. You'll wonder how you ever survived without it!
All the little things that come from experience and paying attention, like the way you can't possibly get your
finger stuck in the auger for the meat grinder; the speed control; the hinge pin that lets you lift the beaters
out of the bowl; the sturdiness; the things it lets you do...
We're making our own meat spread, getting more creative with making bread than we ever can with
our semi-automated breadmaker. Just a marvel.
Highly recommend this over the one currently being sold at Costco that is a "pro" model but doesn't
have the hinge pin. Which means you have to take the beater out before you can remove the bowl.
Also, this one will fit under your cabinets a whole lot easier than the professional model.
Stainless steel bowl and a couple of beaters come with. A splatter guard, the (upgraded) metal meat
grinder, and the red/slotted beater are the three options I am glad we got.
P.D. The Metallic Chrome color it's beautiful and clean, you won't regret it.
I purchased my KitchenAid Artisan Mixer (NEW not reconditioned) through Amazon.com for $199.00 and also got a $30.00 rebate from KitchenAid, plus free shipping and no sales tax. This same machine sells for $299.00 at the local stores, mine ended up costing $169.00 and it arrived in about 3 days.
My only other comment would be to buy yourself an extra mixing bowl ( KitchenAid K45SBWH Bowl for Pivot Head Stand Mixer ) so you don't have to wash out the bowl when you're mixing more than once recipe at the same time.
Just used the mixer for the first time......WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO PURCHASE!! Handled tea cookie dough wonderfully (previous hand held mixer would smoke a little) and snicker doodle recipe just wonderful..... I will definitely be inspired to try more things with this mixer.....
The height of the paddle blade did not need any adjust (other reviewers chief complaint it seems) and mixer was really quiet considering the effort it takes to handle my cookie dough. I really feel like I could easily double batch these cookies (would be 4 c. flour). Very pleased with this product!!

I had been dreaming of this piece of equiment for a long time, and a friend who does a lot of baking recommended this exact model.
Not only do I love baking, but I have joints problems so stirring a big batch of cookie dough is very hard for me and I would often need to ask for help.
It's not a problem anymore!
I have not had the mixer for a long time and didn't use it a lot, but it was perfect. It looks really sturdy, it's SO quiet I just can't believe it (I'll be able to bake while people watch TV in the next room, or sleep upstairs!).
I love how easy it is to wash, too.
It seems very powerful, it was stirring the cookie dough (a 55 cookies batch) like there was nothing to it, and I could see it would be no problem handling a double batch. Not sure a triple-batch would fit. I don't think the motor would have any trouble with it though, it's just the bowl that might be too small!
The plastic lid is very useful for catching the flour explosions; from the late-recipe additions (even stirring by hand that gets messy).
Being able to tilt the head is nice, I must say. Not sure I would like as much the bowl-lift of the bigger models.
I really can't fault this mixer. It's only problem; is it's heavy, like all mixers that size. But it's what make it sturdy all the same.
Oh, and I love that beater... very easy to lick the dought. :D
EDIT: Now 5 years later, I’m still super happy and it’s still working perfectly!
