I've had previous mandolines in the past - smaller, and not as easy to use, and had the fear of cutting one of my fingers off. This one is the Cadillac of slicers.
First off, yes, it's big. But it folds down and not a problem. It slices super easy and is quick!
I purchased mainly to cut thin onions for Smash Burgers on our Blackstone griddle. It works way better than a knife or the previous slicer we had. This slicer gets the pieces super thin, translucent! There is a knob to change the size of cut too if you are wanting larger slices.
The handle allows you to cut down all the way to the end - for example, with cutting an onion, the onion goes inside the handle and it slowly works its way out as you slice until your at the end of the vegetable - without your fingers getting close to the blade.
So far I've cut onions, carrots, radishes and cucumber and they have all turned out perfect.
You do need to be careful while washing and cleaning - the blade is very sharp.
I was hesitant to spend the money on this at first, but it is heavy duty and well worth the price!

Cleaning & Storage
Cleaning
The julienne storage case and the blade cover must be washed by hand. All other components of the mandoline slicer are dishwasher safe; top rack only. To clean the blades manually, use a long bristle brush and only move the bristle brush in the direction of the blade.
Storage
After cleaning the slicer, make sure the thickness dial is set to zero. Place the blade cover onto the cutting surface and place the julienne blade into the storage case. Fold the leg into the fully closed position. Then turn the slicer upside down. Place the food pushed under the wire holder and clip the blade case into place under the leg. Store right side up in a cool, dry place.
