Her love for children shows in her work with emotionally challenged children in the local school system. She also remains close to her sister’s adopted child, especially when the child develops a serious illness, and her sister, faced with overwhelming problems of her own, sends the child to Claire.
Claire meets NOAA scientist, Montgomery Chandler (Monty), who has just moved to Claire’s town of Newport, Oregon,, as Monty is enrolling his two second graders in the school. He is moving to Newport following the death of his wife, so his sister, a resident there, can help him with the children.
Claire tactfully works with the two children, knowing better than their father, that they are suffering emotionally from the death of their mother. Gradually, Claire and Monty become friends through the children. Claire realizes her attraction to him.
She spurns attention by her ex fiance, who says he made a mistake, treating her as he did, and says he wants to begin a relationship again.
As Claire deals with sins of the past, she learns that the forgiveness she thought she had exercised toward her former fiancé , must travel another mile.
I especially enjoy the new vocations and interests that the author includes in her novels. Sometimes this interest is about vulnerable people, as in a child’s autism. In this book, A Kite on the Wind, I loved learning about Monty’s career, aboard the ships that sail for NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and the knowledge they search for in our oceans. In this case, the voyages are in the Pacific Northwest, studying the gray whales and the challenges they face. The book includes a challenging rescue of one.
I received a copy of the book from the publisher.
She does such a good job of developing characters who seem so real. I enjoy the way they interact and work through situations with moral integrity!! Also found insights into the main characters’ careers very interesting. I highly recommend you also enjoy A KiteOn The Wind!!!
Claire gives her all to help two adorable kids adjust to a new life after they lost their mother; a new town, a new school, and a new living situation where their father sometimes works away from home, and their aunt does her best to stand in the gap.
Just as things begin to improve for the twins, Claire's niece falls ill with a serious diagnosis. Claire goes above and beyond to help her niece, sister, and brother-in-law in their new and surprising predicament. At a point where it seems the couple are emotionally abandoning their child, we learn the truth. Just how many hearts are mended? You'll have to read this and find out!
The publisher provided a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I liked it so much, I'm buying the books as gifts!
