I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntarily, honest review of it.
‘Kitten mine’ is the second book in the ‘Mine’ series. I would recommend that you read the first book ‘Angel mine’ before reading this one. It will make reading this book more understandable if you do.
We met Katherine and Antonio in the first book. Katherine is Brooklyn best friend and Antonio is Dominic best friend (and also his boss). We could already read in that book that there was something going on between Katherine and Antonio but later on it also became clear that something had pushed them apart but we never knew what. So you can say that I was really curious about their story and it was more than I expected!
From the first moment that Antonio and Katherine met there was an attraction. Both felt it and both reacted on it but then after a short time when Katherine felt herself falling more and more for this dangerous but protective man, she pulled away. Because deep down she believed that she didn’t deserve him. That he would be better off with someone else. But she underestimated Antonio and his feelings for her. Antonio knows that Katherine is the woman for him and that they could have a great future together. And he will do everything he can to convince her of that. He knows that it will be difficult because he can see that she struggling with something dark. But if there’s one thing that he knows how to fight, it’s dark things so he will do everything in his power to convince Katherine that he’s the right man for her.
But Katherine’s demons aren’t the only obstacles in his way, other people are also trying to come between them in their own special way but they don’t know Antonio very well if they think that he will let someone come between him and his kitten!!!
The story started with different views of Katherine’s life so it took me a moment to get into the story but once I did I fell in love with it. This is a mafia story so you can expect violence and dead but one thing that I love about Kay Maree’s writing is that she writes it in such a way that it isn’t too dark to read. That’s also with the pace of the story, there are a lot of things happening in the story but it’s still believable. Nothing is never too much of something. And the fact that the story had some surprising twists is something that I just love as a reader!
The story is told from both POV, in the first book we met Katherine’s feisty side but in this book we see another side of her. It’s a very vulnerable side, a side that nobody knows of except her diary. But Antonio sees it and he wants it all, the feisty kitten and the vulnerable woman. The light and the dark. Antonio was really the perfect man for Katherine and I must confess that I felt for him too.
I really enjoyed it and I’m already looking forward to the next book in this series.
Kat's life wasn't easy, having her father leave then her older sister treat her abominably, she found life very dark a lot of the time and built walls around her heart to survive. Antonio is an enforcer for his mob boss but is besotted with Kat, his Kitten. Slowly he tries to crumble those walls of hers but it is a difficult task.
Excitement and lots of action and drama fill this book to make the reader sit up and take notice the whole way through. Erotic bedroom scenes show the depth of passion the lead characters have for each other. But there is a lot more, the depth of understanding and care they also have for each other is endearing.
There are some twists and turns that keep readers unsure of what is coming up next and determined to keep reading even when they need sleep! Yes, I couldn't put this book down and its fast pace makes it super easy to read.
Bring on book 3, Sugar Mine!
Kitten Mine is a continuation to Angel Mine in the "Mine" series by new author Kay Maree. I wouldn't recommend reading "KITTEN" without reading Angel first as it has important parts to the story which wont make sense otherwise (in my opinion).
The beginning threw me a bit and i had to double check i was reading the right book with its recap/throw-back. But i soon got into it and enjoyed the story overall. Kay Maree has an easy flowing style to her work, with good character development and a storyline to keep the reader involved. Again she has done a remarkable job for being a new off the ranks author!
Kitten is Antonio and Kats story who we originally met in Angel Mine.
Kat's character comes across as fiesty and fierce but deep down she is just a kitten in need of a loving and understanding special someone who can help her through the dark...
Antonio is the Capo Bastone or the mafia boss' (Dom) righthand man. He has a dark past which still haunts him, and is one of the reasons he is so committed to the family and fiercely loyal.
With a closed-off heart he never expects to fall in love, but maybe just maybe when he meets his match, flames can ignite?
Obviously I'm not going to tell you what happens but this is a lovestory that needs to face the darkness before coming to the light. It is action packed drama from the get go and will keep the reader captivated with its semi-dark but beautiful storyline.
The chemistry between Antonio and Kat is something i enjoyed watching come to fruition, and they definitely had an interesting story to tell.
We also get a little more of Brooklyn and Dom who i fell in love with in Angel and remain my personal favorites so far.
The author has again brought to the attention of the reader some serious real-life issues that a lot of girls and guys face daily, which flowed seamlessly into the story without being too obvious or in your face. Unlike Angel, Kitten wasnt full of sex. Don't get me wrong it definitely had steam, but this story spoke to me on a different level and was more realistic in its interactions (hope that makes sense?) Normally I would complain about the lack of sexual encounters, but to be honest i didnt even notice which just means the author did a great job of getting my attention regardless.
This ends with an epilogue which took me by surprise. I really wasn't expecting the outcome and goes to show this isnt another predictable read, which is uniquely refreshing! We are also introduced to two new characters, and let me say... I think will be the most interesting yet, and i cant wait for the next book in this series!
Another excellent job from this author who just gets better and better. I would totally recommend this read for anyone looking for a sexy, semi-dark mafia romance, which can be read over a couple of days.
