Pet therapist, Caro Lamont, has a bustling practice in Laguna Beach, California. Business is up, and Caro has a love interest, that she is interested in, and except for her cousin, Melinda who keeps stealing their Grandmother's broach, life is good.
Then the unthinkable happens, Caro's next door neighbor, a sought after Publicist and owner of two Bengal painting cats, is murdered. Caro finds herself aiding the homicide detective and trying to keep a watch on the Publicist's newly found Sister, as she tries to keep herself safe from the killer. Why are they attacking Caro? Caro wants to know as well.
This book is a laughing homicide. The Sister is inspired. Yes, she has a name but that would spoil a classic comic moment if I disclosed it, so I won't.
This is a novella and a quick read. Take it with you on your commute or to the beach. Be sure to give it as a gift to a friend, or someone you have just met at a restaurant, after you have finished both the book and your meal. You will make life long friends and mystery readers. Enjoy!
The development of characters is superb. I having a hard time not reading in order to write a review that will do it justice. If you like animals and surprising yourself laughing as you read, you'll be glad you chose this delightful book. Many thanks to the author and publisher. I do wish you'd have someone read whose grammar is more particular.
I would put this just a smidgeon below Get Fluffy, mostly because there were a few times that I became very annoyed with the main character. There was a bit of repetition -- enough already of the April-Mae-June thing, and why on earth doesn't she get the connection for so long between trying to find a job for a woman while at the same time needing to hire someone?
This is book 3 in the Pampered Pets series. It can be a stand alone read, but will be most enjoyed if you have read the first two books in the series. I won't rehash the story outline, others have done a good job of that.
I love the characters in these books. Most of them are 'good people' who are just slightly quirky. The mystery element is also good. The humor and wit is just right. This story features Caro, the cousin who was also featured in book one.
I was afraid this might be the last book in the series since the ongoing battle of which cousin gets to keep the heirloom brooch was sort of resolved. however, I read on the authors' blog that book four has been completed and sent to the publishers.
I can't wait for it to be out in Kindle edition. This is just a great, witty cozy series, with characters you will enjoy getting to know. I highly recommend it.
Though not a pet owner myself, I appreciate the way Sparkle Abbey respects the animal world and informs readers with little-known factoids, like the "fainting" goats in this story.
