Flimsy box and lid; was broken when it arrived

The lid of the valet box was broken when it arrived at my house. The hinges are held on by tiny screws that had all fallen off. The back edge of the wooden box had splintered where the hinges were supposed to attach the lid to the box. I don’t believe the item had been damaged in transit based on how it was packaged. I think I received a defective product.

The other items in the box are of reasonable quality. The brushes are easy to hold and use. The polish did a decent job refinishing the leather of my shoes, and the cloth wipes gave the shoes a nice finish.

If the box had a more sturdy construction this would be a good product. But as it stands I can not recommend it.

Lightweight box. Very disappointing!

The box is nothing at all like the one my Dad had. The wood is very lightweight and flimsy. We used my Dad’s to stand on while we brushed our teeth or washed our hair. This one is not sturdy enough for that. I ended up getting a nice custom made box and giving this one away. If you are a wood worker, you will hate this cheaply made box. Don’t let the dovetails fool you. When I received the package, I thought it might be empty. That’s how lightweight it is. The brushes are also very small. It’s a shame how quality has gone down so much.

Quality Issues w/ Box.

Looks like the box suffered some manufacturing or shipping damage. Looks like the box was accidentally smashed on a small portion of the bottom front half.

I noticed that the top lid doesn't align very well with bottom piece either. Appears that this issue is due to poor quality hinges and screws on the box.

I was reimbursed for my purchase by Amazon, which is awesome customer service. I'm a little skeptical if I want to use Kiwi's brand for wax and polish given some of the quality issues on the box. I'll try out the product on my cheaper shoes to see if its works well first.

Ordered this because of the great reviews. Unfortunately, mine came completely broken - front latch hanging on by one screw and rear hinge loose (looks like the screws split the wood). See pictures. Other than that it seems like a nice kit.

Cheap hardware

Carpentry is decent but the hardware is absolute garbage. The spring for the latch hasp pulls the little tabs out that hold it in place after latching it 3 times. Have already ordered heavier duty replacement latch and hinges. Sadly, that’s what you get when everything is outsourced to China. The labor isn’t the only thing cheap. Certainly not the quality of the same 25 year old valet I bought when when I was in the military that got beat up for years.

I like this shine box but it was a little smaller than I thought. The finish is good and the wood seems stout. I can store my shine products in there with room. The only thing so far I don't care for is the hinges. They are thin and flimsy. I will replace them with a stronger set from the hardware store. I will be using this 2 or 3 times a week for my own shoes and need something reliable. This is a nice kit and the accessories that come with it will work for what I'm looking for right now. Be advised that the Valet Box, Daubers, Brushes and Shoe Horn are all made in China. The only portion that may be made in the USA is the shoe polish however the cans state they are manufactured for SC Johnson and Son with no indication of the origin.

It's smaller than I expected it to be.. It's kind of the toy version of a shoe shine box.. But other than the small size it is good quality and well worth the money. Let's face it, you have a closet full of shoes and boots so why not buy this and use it so you don't have to worry about stepping in that puddle and spending the day with a wet foot. Or put your kid to work outside the mall or Walmart. Lol good product, fast shipping, worth the money.. Buy it even if you only use it as a display piece.
