It's nice to finally get these on CD. SIR ARMY SUIT was, I think, an under appreciated album. ENDANGERED SPECIES, however is only average. So I'd give SIR ARMY SUIT five stars and ENDANGERED 3 stars. The first is adventurous and covers multiple styles. You have the Beatles influenced "Routine Day" and "Everybody Took A Holiday" to the acid edged "Older." There are classical pretensions on "Cherie" and a hard rock edge to "Mr. Manson" (which is probably my favorite song off this record).

Another standout track is "Silly Boys" with it's treated "backwards" vocals, obtuse lyrics, and, dare I say, New Age touches. "Dear Christine" echoes the Beatles again, as does "Tokeymor Field." All the tracks on SIR ARMY SUIT are strong.

I wish I could say the same for ENDANGERED SPECIES, half of which is listenable and half of which is rather dreadful. The sound is completely different. Apparently, Capitol records wanted to recoup some of its investment in the group, and they were sent out to California I believe, and were put to work working with some crack session musicians in an attempt to create an accessable sound.

The good: "I Can't Help It," "Hot Box City," "Knee Deep In Love," "Dog Star," and "All Good Things."

The tolerable: "Howl at the Moon"

The truly dreadful: "Paranoia." "Set the World On Fire," and the "funky" "Sell Out, Sell Out." These are filled with cliches, forced rhymes, and uninspired songwriting. You feel like you've heard these songs before. Many times. These guys forte did not lie in writing conventional love songs or other rock staples. When taking on other-worldly themes they excelled. Lastly, the sound on ENDANGERED SPECIES is too calculated, and the material is just not that good. Hence, three stars.

I always liked Klaatu and was intrigued by who they were.... but I liked their music more than the 'mystery' that surrounded the band. Here we have albums 3 and 4 in a double album CD or download. Both move the band away from the space themes a bit more and more to the pop world. Good vocals and good instrument work and the songs are not copies of one another. Some have great melodies, some rock a bit more and some are, yes, I will say it, Beatleesque in some ways. That's a good thing to be, worked for ELO and for Klaatu but each had their own sound with it.
Mister Manson is unlike some of their other works and stands out. Hello Sweet Joan makes you hurt for the singer, been there as we all have been.
Howl at the Moon was good and Tokeymore Field and Everybody Took a Holiday are for me some what of the signature sounds for this group. And remind us of those escapist '60s tunes. And like the Band, I just can't help it - I like and enjoy Klattu and hope you do too!

The Band Klaatu was a short lived Canadian band from around the 1970's-80's. These two albums were rather unsuccessful especially when compared to their first two albums and their final album. After listening to both of them, I wasn't really left with any impression and overall found it forgettable. Perhaps after a second listen something will stand out more but for now I am left rather neutral. If you are a hardcore Klaatu fan it is a must have but if you are only curious about the band then I suggest you pick up 3.47 EST, Hope, or Magentalane.

Klaatu are on of the greatest rock/progressive rock bands of all time. With Sir Army Suit they were still in their creative prime. Endangered Species basically sucked, but I Can't Help It and Knee Deep in Love are like 2 bonus tracks on this 2 disc set. Just go to their website and get the new remastered version of Sir Army Suit unless it is on Amazon now. I got Hope from a vendor on Amazon for 12 bucks instead of the 35 Amazon was selling it for. The CD was brand new and perfect. Get a used version of the double CD as the two above named tracks are worth the purchase of you are a fan.

these albums took KLAATU in a much more pop direction than the first 2 albums which were much more progressive like than these.both albums have an even amount of good and bad.stand out tracks are ALL GOOD THINGS about the loss of a dog, that only rivals paul mccartney in accostic little stories under 2 mins long.KNEE DEEP IN LOVE,I CANT HELP IT all from endangered spieces .ROUTINE DAY an 80s like GOOD DAY SUNSHINE.DEAR CHRISTINE an beautiful ballad.OLDER a rocker EVERBODY TOOK A HOLIDAY
an interesting story about a fictional 1985 all from SIR ARMY SUIT.the sound quality of this release is outstanding.but on the negative the packaging the liner notes are again horrid.still the bullseye canda releases are better.

not the same as the first two cds, but still very good music. and if you asked me, I still would believe that the beatles had something to do with it.
