Product Description

This fast-drying solvent can be used instead of paint thinner to accelerate drying time of oil-based paints, enamel and varnish. It also is excellent as a thinner for rubber cement, adhesives and oil-based coatings and works well for cleaning brushes and spray equipment. Often used as a lubricant for rubbing out hardened shellac finishes, and will improve an older shellac coating with a simple rub-down. Do not use to thin lacquers, shellac or latex paints. Flammable. Quart. Please note that this item can be shipped only by UPS Ground to addresses within the continental United States.

Local home depot quit selling it because our benevolent government decided we're not mature enough to handle this type of chemical on our own in California and to "protect the environment". They forgot about the internet, where it's still legal to purchase and own this in some states (you're next!).
This is an excellent general purpose solvent that can remove many things. Scuff marks on the floor from black rubber heels, gum residue from labels, etc. It has basically no odor and it doesn't effect plastics or pretty much any other material like acetone does.
I purchased 4 cans (just in case it became illegal). Shipping was prompt and packed very well so it arrived undamaged.

Apparently many state governments have outlawed the use of naphtha for household use because it is a volatile organic compound (VOC) and can supposedly affect air quality. Of course, the idea that people cleaning spots has any affect on air quality is ridiculous, but this is what happens when government gets too much power. California even sued Reckitt Benckiser, Inc, the maker of Energine Spot Remover and received a settlement in 2004.

The good news is that there are alternatives. You can still buy naphtha for use as a paint thinner. I assume it will work the same as Energine.
[...]

You can also buy Folex, which gets very good reviews as a spot remover.
[...]

Both are available at Amazon or at hardware stores like Lowes.

Purchased this to use in place of Energine, which is no longer available (thanks to government regulations) which I used like a dry cleaning fluid to remove and clean stains in clothing, saving me trips to the dry cleaners on small items. This is a great subsitute for Energine, and I understand Naphtha also has many other uses which I did't even realize till I read the other reviews!

Works as intended. I purchased this for cleaning my guitar fretboard from all the crust buildup from playing guitar, which claims to be safe for this type of application what I have read online. Works we'll for me. I only use once or twice a year personally. Just wish it came in a smaller container, there is a lot here and will last well beyond my lifetime.

The only one equal to the former company's - "Energine" that is pure enough to be used as a spot remover!

Product works well, especially as a replacement for Zippo lighters. I had a bad batch sent to me by Winnrs' store side, since it came to me in seram wrap and with the seal broken off. Really mad about that, but it seems they're the only supplier. So buyer beware.

I use this product to get grease out of my clothes. It is really "Energine, spot remover" that I used years ago. All you have to do is dab a little on a grease spot and wash as usual. So glad I found an old "Energine" can to see that it is really "Naphtha."
