I highly recommend laying this product on the carpet with a helper. It loves to twist and stick to itself, and good luck getting it unstuck. I kind of expect that from a product like this, however, so I cannot hold it against it.
One more tip: do not try to get the edges perfect using only this product. You should stock up on some extra wide (1.5") painter's tape and use that to plug the edges near the drywall. It is cheaper in terms of money and frustration. Use this product for protecting the inner 95% of your carpet. I like to lay it so there is a little extra that needs to be stuffed under the drywall edge, but that is tough to do unless you lay the edges at a 45 degree angle and have the perfect tough so it does not stick to itself. Edges near doors and closets can be a pain. Just do your best, and maybe run short length or two through the opening to overlay the ugly edges.
A pain to lay down, but that is just how it is. Learn the difficulties of working with it and cover the edge cases with tape.
