What can I say, I'll never buy another wire stripper.

Especially for stranded wire, this thing's incredible. Every wire stripper I've ever owned requires a lot of care to avoid damaging the outer strands in a stranded wire when stripping. Not this one. Once you select the right size hole, it strips quickly and perfectly every time. And you really can't mess it up. Just squeeze and release.

It almost seems like it's too fast to really be a precise tool, but I think that's part of why it works so well. It really does manage to avoid damaging the wire at all.

The construction is very sturdy. This tool does not seem cheap. It looks and feels like it was built to last. The mechanism, while a little on the complex side, operates nice and slick.

There are only two caveats, although neither is worth a star off when comparing this unit to all the other styles of wire strippers.

First of all, there is no wire cutter on board. Oh well. Maybe they could have found a spot for one, but I still use this unit every time, even though I usually have another cutter/stripper on hand for cutting.

Secondly, the recommended hole size for a given AWG varies depending on whether it is stranded or solide wire. That is to say, there are two sets of size indications printed next to the stripping holes, one for stranded and one for solid. As far as I can tell, there is no indication of which set is which (aside from the manual), so in practice you'll either have to remember which is which or figure it out by trial and error every time you go to strip some wires.

Or just guess. Which brings me to the last major plus of this unit that mitigates the previous negative. This unit works so well, one will usually get good results even if one selects the next largest size hole.

It all started one time I took my usual sidekick E...n to a repair/upgrade job. As usual, he came well prepared, boasting about his new, still in a blister pack, Klein Tools 11063 Catapult Wire Stripper, similar model to the one being reviewed here but without the built in cutter.

Immediately after unpacking the tool he began to put it to the test. He stripped a few wires of various gauge without a hitch but was outwardly perplexed when he could not locate the means to cut the wire with his newly acquired gadget.

After watching E...n stripping wire after wire with his 11063 for the entire day, I decided that I should get one for myself.

A brief visit to Klein Tools website revealed that the company offers a model of the tool with a built in cutter. Naturally, that was the one I ordered.

Here are my opinions and findings about the Klein Tools 11063W after using it for about 5 weeks.
Operation and Design:
* The mechanism appears to be well thought out and designed. The fact that the unit sounds and works the same now as it did first out of the box is a testament to its sturdiness.
* Throughout each stripping cycle each moving part of the tool follows its designated path in sync with the rest of the parts. This mechanical choreography ensures a perfectly stripped wire every time. But that's not all, at the end of the cycle the tool is designed to completely separate and clear itself away from the stripped wire, thus protecting the bristles from being inadvertently bent or otherwise deformed. Needless to say that all this wizardry happens in a blink of an eye and is completely transparent to the user, all I have to do is feed the wire and squeeze.
Ergonomics:
* This tool is very easy to operate.

The stripper works very well. It's very solid, and it should provide years of service (for those who care, it is of Taiwanese manufacture). My only complaint is that the tool is advertised as stripping 8-22 gauge wire. It actually strips 8-20 gauge solid and 10-22 gauge stranded wire. This is stated clearly on the packing, but it is omitted from Amazon's description. Since I use this stripper for narrow gauge wire, I ordered a set of replacement cutters that strip 16-26 AWG solid (Klein part #11074). The cutters are easily replaced by removing the two screws on cutter's face.

Just got my hands on this wire stripper a few minutes ago. We bought this with the intention of using it to strip 22 gauge stranded wire. According to everything on Amazon and the Klein website, it should be able to properly strip my wire. However when placed in the smallest hole, it does not strip it. It glides over the insulation and shaves off some of it, but its like its 1% too big of a hole. If you need this for 22 gauge wire, be aware that it may not work as advertised.

I already called Klein customer service, and they recommended replacing the blades with their smaller gauge variety. http://amzn.com/B00776SKB6 is the link to what you may need. They said they would send me the replacement blades for free, which solves MY problem, but I wanted to make everyone else aware that it may not work with your particular brand of 22 gauge wire.

These made stripping wire so much easier. I only wish they had a storage spot for additional blade dies, as I also have a second set of dies for smaller gauge wire.
