From the Manufacturer

Since 1857, the company operated by Mathias Klein and his descendants to the fifth generation, has grown and developed along with the telecommunications and electrical industries where Klein pliers first found major usages. Today, Klein Tools, Inc. represents much more than Klein pliers. The company's product line has broadened to include virtually every major type of hand tool used in construction, electronics, mining, and general industry in addition to the electrical and telecommunications fields. Klein offers a lifetime warranty on material defects and workmanship for the normal life of the product. The Klein 650 Cushion-Grip Scratch Awl comes in handy when a pencil or marker does not show up very well on any material you need to mark. It scribes metal, starts screw holes, performs a variety of piercing and punching jobs. This professional, heavy-duty, hard-pointed awl is easy to use, and it lasts longer than a pencil or pen. The 3-1/2-inch rigid, chrome-plated, heat-treated, tempered-steel shank has full reinforcing bolster at handle for extra strength and for handle impact reinforcement. With an overall length of 7-7/8 inches (200 mm), this awl has internal flanges that provide a solid shank anchor, and the cushion-Grip handle allows for greater comfort. The Klein 650 Cushion-Grip Scratch Awl is sold one item per package.

Okay, so this is a pretty basic tool but this is the best iteration I have ever had. It really is easy to underestimate the usefulness of an awl, but when you need it you will be glad to have this one. The tip is very sharp and I can imagine that this will last a very long time. Such a basic tool, but a necessity for any respectable toolbag.

Some people don't know this, but klein tools with these such handles have something to identify it on top. The nut drivers have the size on them and also an M if they are magnetic. This has the model number of 650 on it so you could easily distinguish this from other klein tools in your bag, box, or pouch.

There's really not much to say about this product being that it is a simple tool.. However, it's by far the nicest iteration of an awl that I have ever used.. It's got a good solid weight to it and it's very symmetrical in it's tapper. The grip is good and it has lasted me for a few months now no problem. Definitely worth the little extra that it costs over inferior quality products. I'll be looking more into Klein tools for future purchases because I like what I've seen thus far.

First of all, I can't believe I didn't realize how handy this tool would be over having to get out the drill and make a mess all the time. It does a great job and feels very solid. The only thing is that the widest part of the metal isn't quite wide enough for my drywall anchors. So I have to start with the awl and finish with my cordless drill. Still, this is a great tool.

Ah, how I love hand tools made in the USA of high quality steel. I use it for light jobs, nothing as tough as actually punching leather, and I find the screwdriver-style grip comfortable. And best of all, it's pointy!

Makes the job much easier of screwing in drywall screws into plywood (had to screw it manually in my trade school). great tool, but make sure not to smash the tip against other metals like steel if you want to retain the sharp tip of the awl. Klein delivers again

Great professional quality tool with good shaft length and very sharp. If you carry this in your tool box make sure you cover the tip for safety or you may jam yourself good rooting around in your tool box for stuff. A cork secured by some tape is an excellent choice as this awl does not come with a point guard.

After many years of using an old, slightly rusted ice pick as an awl I thought it was time to move up to the real thing. I had a particular project I needed this for, but have used it for several other marking and punching tasks since then. It has a nice balance, doesn't flex, has a sharp point, and I love how it doesn't roll away when I set it down.

An awl is that tool you will wonder how you ever got along without it. I find a use for it almost everytime I'm in the workshop. I made a holder for it so it's always handy. The quality is awesome and should provide a lifetime of service.
