The CL2000 true-RMS clamp meter is a professional grade, quality-built test instrument equipped with practical features that reflect the thoughtful and safety-conscious engineering behind its design.

Many if not most advertised clamp meters measure (with the clamp) AC current only, not DC current. DC current measurement with the clamp makes the CL2000 useful in troubleshooting DC electrical systems found in automobiles and various battery backup solutions. With the clamp, I can easily measure ignition-off drain on my car battery without needing to disconnect the battery cable, for example.

Design features like the no-probe voltage detector, display backlight, worklight, rear magnetic mount and lead storage, accessory probe clip on fixed jaw -- along with the common digital multimeter test functions of voltage, resistance, capacitance, continuity and diode check -- put the CL2000 in a class by itself in safety and versatility.

For the one hundred thirty-five dollars I paid for my CL2000, I really cannot ask for a better Category III-600V rated, UL-listed test instrument. This meter is simply worth the investment.

I purchased Klein CL2000 clamp meter mainly for its AC and DC clamp functions since I already own a few regular meters. This meter comes with 1 meter leads, threaded alligator lead attachments, two AAA alkaline batteries, manual and a fabric black color case. Mine CL2000 was made in Korea.

Judging by the specs only the accuracy is somewhat worse than significantly more expensive Flukes. No complaint here. But trying to measure 1 ohm resistance gives me 0.6 ohm, while leads shorted together produce exactly 0 (zero). Not so good here... This is 40% error. My 20 year old well used Fluke 29 makes no mistake during the same measurement.

You will have a feeling that CL2000 is extremely slow during all measurements. It does not compare good to Fluke 29. For example, it took 55 seconds for CL2000 to measure 2200 microfarad capacitance. Fluke 29 did the same measurement in 14 seconds.

Well, Fluke 29 is a much better tool, but it does not have a current clamp. How does the CL2000' clamp perform? After all, I bought the meter for its clamp feature. I was able to check the clamp on both AC and DC current up to 2A. The performance was decent, but accuracy - only so-so. The meter displays current in .01A increments, but the last digit is not stable. I guess it is fine since meter's accuracy is 2.5% +15 digits for DC current and 2.9% +15 digits for AC current below 40A. Contrary to Ken's review I was able to zero the meter for DCA measurements. You just need to hold the "Rel. Zero" button for about 2 seconds until it beeps. Checking AC current through the light fixture with three 13W CFL bulbs I've got .59A, which compares well with Kill-A-Watt reading of .58A. Next I removed 2 bulbs and Kill-A-Watt reading went to .18A, but CL2000 indicated "0" - no current.

Overall a competent meter for the price. Tests for just about everything you'd need (save for maybe temperature).

I mainly use mine for AC/DC volts-amps and frequency. The readings I get on those settings have been consistent with those on my other meters. The sample rate in at least in DCV mode for this meter appears to be only about 1X per second, so when using the max hold feature you will not get accurate readings when testing values that cycle faster than that (sample rate for in-rush current appears to be much quicker, however). Also when using max hold, you'll most likely have to disable the autorange feature in order to get a reading otherwise an "OL" (over limit/range) message will appear on screen. The DCA zeroing button on mine doesn't seem to actually zero out the digits on screen, but values I've measured are again consistent with my other meters. Frequency setting seems to test AC voltage and current only.

One nice thing about this unit (unlike some others) is you do not need to switch around banana plugs to another jack when testing between resistance and volts. Another is the ability to measure microamps via the clamp.

Looks well made (It's made in Korea versus the Fluke Clamp meters which are made in China or Taiwan). Feels very solid and quite heavy compared to a compact multimeter.
The Non Contact AC Voltage Detection feature works well and can be used with the press of a button even when the unit isn't turned on.
I like the idea of the lead holders on the back of the unit however they are so tight that once you put the leads in there it takes a lot of force to pop them back out. I am a little worried about breaking the leads so I probably won't use that feature much.
The magnet on the back is very strong and features a soft pad so you won't scratch surfaces. No worries about it falling off - the magnet could easily hold twice the weight.
Uses two AA batteries (included) and comes with a case, test leads and screw on alligator clips all rated at CAT III (that means the tester is rated for anything on the house side of the main disconnect in your breaker box)
This is a true RMS meter which means it will give you a more accurate AC voltage measurement than a traditional meter because it takes into account the imperfect AC waveform that can result from the high use of plug in transformers that are used to charge DC devices in today's households. Whereas a traditional meter might give you a lower reading because it misses the outlying frequencies a TRMS meter will give the correct voltage.
The CL2000 measures AC Voltage up to 750 and DC up to 1000V. It measures AC and DC amps up to 400A via the clamp. You will want an AC Line Splitter with a 10X coil so that you can measure low amperage devices such as under 1 AMP accurately. Then you just move the decimal over one place and you have the correct amperage.
