No other brand I've use for lineman's are as high quality as Kleins are. The pliers look beautiful brand new, but that doesn't last. And that's because this is a dirty business.
Picking them up, you can feel that they aren't a cheap or purchased at a bargain bin. They are solidly made. They come stiff, but thats to be expected. Nothing a little lube and good old fashion working it can't fix.
Here's a little tip. When fishing a conduit with a fish tape and the tape seems to get stuck. Or when pulling and it's very difficult and killing your hands, use the little space in between the handles to grip the fish tape. Get a good squeeze on the handles and pull down. That will save your thumbs when pulling cable or wire.
Bottom line, I'll never buy another brand of linesman's pliers as long as these are still being made in the good old U.S. of A! They've treated me right my whole career even though I haven't been very nice to them. (Using them as a hammer, etc.)
I have tried other brands more expensive and less and this is the sidecutter that I have found to be of the highest quality.
The way to determine how good a pair of sidecutters are going to be is the distance measurement from the hinge to the start of the cutting blade. Klein has managed to cut this distance down to a minimum, while still maintaining the tool's strength. The closer that distance, the less force needed to cut thicker wire.
The blade stays sharp for a long time, and once your set of Kleins are broken in, you will not be able to live without them.
Consider moving up to the next level of Kleins with the fishtape pulling grip located at the top, inside of the handles. You will use it often.
