Product Description

The Image S3 headphones offer a major boost in sound and comfort. These passive noise-cancelling in-ear headphones deliver dynamic sound and unequaled comfort.

Producing spectacular highs and lows, the Image S3 brings the best possible sound. The S3 headphones feature durable, tangle resistant cables to avoid unwanted tangling. The cable is also molded into the plug for improved strain relief. These headphones have undergone extensive resistance and strength testing to ensure they stack up to virtually every real-world scenario.

Unlike circular-shaped ear tips that put stress on the pressure points inside the ear, Klipsch's oval ear tips naturally fit the contours of your ear canals, providing comfortable long-term wear. These lightweight ear tips also offer superior noise isolation, blocking out almost all-ambient noise and providing excellent bass.

The Image S3 employs a customized 5.8mm moving-coil micro speaker with controlled damping in each piece, allowing the product to deliver smooth, full-bodied sound. The Image S3 works with virtually any device that has a standard 3.5mm headphone jack.

Recently my old Sony In ear headphones stopped working and so I decided it was time to move onto something higher end for use with my Zune. When it comes to sound, I have always preferred the best sound I can get for the money, as I have practiced when picking receivers and speakers for my home theater systems as well.

This is the first product from Klipsch I have bought but I knew of their quality before hand and that is what drew me to this pair. They definitely lived up to their name with these. I'll start out by saying that the headphones have absolutely amazing sound reproduction quality, though it doesn't have the huge bass "punch" in my head like my Sony's did, it is very balanced. Perhaps this is due to the fact I didn't put the headphones under a burn in period yet, so I will update once I have done that. The bass that currently there though is still very good and it compliments the very good mid and high ranges. In comparison, I have tried many other friend's headphones before and this is by far the best ones I have listened to thus far.

Second, the noise isolation is superb, I can barely hear anything when I have them in, so though this is very good in noisy environments, I wouldn't suggest taking strolls around with them in or running alone, otherwise you will not be able to hear anything around you.

Third, these headphones are extremely comfortable, even after prolonged use with them, you still only can tell they are in your ears because the music is playing haha!

Overall these headphones are amazing for the money, I would recommend these to anyone. 5 Stars.

Summary: Effective noise reduction. Good music reproduction.

My guesstimate is that half the ambient noise is blocked by these plugs. Better than I had expected and pretty good for plain 'ol plugs! It takes a few trials to get used to twisting them into place. Once inserted properly, you hardly feel them.

The music reproduction is at least ok. Probably better than ok but my hearing isn't the best so I can't review this like an audiophile. But it sounds good to me.

I noticed the claimed frequency response is 12hz to 18khz. 12hz! That's amazingly low. I tested it with the 1812 overture (cannons!). First with some decent headphones - Panasonic RP-HS27s. In the ear models but not plugs. I've had these for years and they're solid performers. The cannons from 1812 sounded like weak firecrackers. You could hear them but it was just another sound. Then I tried the Klipschs. Oooh! A little bit of BOOM-BOOM in my head! Nothing like listening to 1812 with a decent sub-woofer but a lot more than I expected from these tiny little plugs. (The non-cannon music sounded the same on both the Panasonics and the Klipschs). EXCELLENT bass reproduction.

Sensitivity is 1mw/106db so they can output a lot of sound on weak inputs.

The plugs come with a nifty carrying case and TWO sets of replacement ear tips.

It's claimed the cables are tangle resistant and durable. Yup to the anti-tangle. Can't vouch for the durability - haven't had these long enough.

The Klipsch Image S3 headphones are a solid pair of mid priced IEMs. They certainly sound better and are much more comfortable than the stock ear buds that came with my Zune, and they outpace my $20.00 dollar pair Koss headphones. If you're in the market to upgrade your stock ear buds to something more substantial, the S3s will definitely do the trick. However, models like the Shure SE115-K Sound Isolating Earphones with Dynamic Microspeaker II (Black), Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5vi Noise Isolating Earphones w/ Microphone, and even Klipsch's own Klipsch IMAGE S4 In-Ear Enhanced Bass Noise-Isolating Headphones offer a better overall headphone for about $25 more.

The S3s come with a headphone case, and a fit kit with three different sizes of plastic ear pieces. Unfortunately, they don't come with foam ear pieces, which to me give a better seal than their plastic counterparts. But, I was able to get a good seal with the larger version of the ear pieces, and they were quite comfortable. They also allow both sport fit (wrapping the cord around the ear), and traditional fit (the cords hanging down like regular ear buds). After years of using Shure headphones, I was used to the sport fit, but folks coming from IPod headphones may find the traditional fit easier to manage. The cord looks thin and vulnerable to me, but the S3s come with a 2 year warranty.

For headphones, the devil is in the details.
