Editorial Reviews

Fifteen years ago, Edwin went to clown camp to fulfill his lifelong dream of bringing laughter to the world... but nobody laughed. Humiliated on graduation night, Edwin viciously murdered the entire camp before vanishing into legend. Now, despite the warnings of the town drunk, old man Bonzo has reopened the ranch and a new class of clowns have unwittingly signed up. When their die-hard instructor Sgt. Funnybone (Miguel Martinez, The Donor Conspiracy) is found dead in a puddle of cream pie and blood, the curriculum changes from comedy to survival! Edwin slashes, stabs, strangles, and disembowels the clowns while laughing insanely at his own bad jokes.

I've been following the production of "Klown Kamp Massacre" for a little over 4 years now so I was extremely excited when they finally announced that the movie was available on DVD. While extremely excited I was a nervous going into the movie; 4 years of anticipation and expectations being made. The trailers made the movie look like it was going to a lot of fun, but I tried to keep the expectations low by telling myself it's a low-budget horror comedy about a killer at a clown camp, so it's a slim chance of actually being good. But as it turns out I was grossly underestimating what the people at I Can't Believe Its Not Hollywood Productions could do.

"Klown Kamp Massacre" puts a new spin on a all too familiar tale for horror fans; 15 years ago after being humiliated in front of everyone, Edwin the clown viciously and brutally murders his fellow camp clowns. After being shut down because of the ghastly crime, Bonzo decides to re-open his camp due to his television show being canceled. With a fresh batch of painted faces on the way, everyone tries to warn them not to go because of the death curse. Naturally, nobody listens. From the start everything seems to be normal but it isn't before long that campers start disappearing and the body count starts to rise.

So, as you can tell we aren't exactly treading new waters here, but that's ok. "Klown Kamp Massacre" is almost a love letter to the slasher films from the 80's (most notably "Friday the 13th" and "Halloween") just with a clowny twist. At first I wasn't sure why it took them so long to get the movie out, and after watching the movie it became clear. They took their time on this movie to give the best bang-for-the-buck that they could and it paid off for them quite well.

A movie made with the intention of being horrible it meets this goal with flying colors! It is stupid, needlessly violent, perverted, disgusting and hilarious! You have to have a taste for this kind of thing already if you expect to like it but if you do then you should REALLY like it! I certainly do. One of my favorite movies.

If you go into this one expecting microbudget, c-movie horror, and a video that doesn't take itself at all seriously, you may enjoy this one. It's a horror comedy. Unfortunately, I didn't really find it funny or even watchable. I lasted about 30 minutes. I know, though, there's a small group of fans of this sub-sub genre, and you fans of shlocky horror flicks might get a kick out of it.

Thank you David Valdez and Philip Gunn for directing this movie. I have enjoyed watching this movie every time I watch! I also also would like to thank Troma Entertainment for sponsoring this movie, as I have been have a fan of the Troma movies ever since. It is also always awesome to watch my longtime and friend Jared Herholtz act and perform his act in this movie. The follow up short, Bloody Birthday, is just as brilliantly done as well. It is great to watch a movie that is done by friends. I hope one day everyone of the cast and crew can come back to work together again on the next movie project.

I don't get clowns. I don't get either the horror or the humor of big red noses, over-sized shoes, and don't even get me started on balloon poodles. That's why I was hesitant to watch this movie, expecting to find some slapstick take on the horror genre. Instead, I found a satirical gem of a movie.

The plot of the film is Friday the 13th but instead of frisky teens at summer camp it's, well frisky clowns at summer camp. Be warned, the horror and slasher aspect takes a back seat to a broad attack on any number of contemporary issues; from rap music to reality TV to steriods to mimes they are all in season. Pay attention, the one liners, quips and jokes are easy to miss. I'm still giggling over the Clown Klux Klan reference. If the movie has a weakness (and gets only 3 stars) it's the forced low brow potty humor that was out of place in a sea of otherwise smart and crisp humor.

Don't watch this if you are looking for a slasher flick. If you're a closet clown looking for a movie to reinforce your identity I wouldn't recommend it either. If, however, you are crusty, sardonic and a smart ass, you'll enjoy it.

This is actually an above-average B-movie. Troma fans should love it, the script is actually quite good. A fun and funny movie.

Not up for any awards for sure, but it was a fun movie to watch. Ashley Bryce is a real beauty too!

Klown Kamp Massacre is a low bubget Troma slasher flick. But its still an enjoyable slasher flick. And when was the last time you saw a slasher flick with clowns in it.
