UPDATE: Been using this pad for about a year now. I camp in all climates and conditions, i have a poor back, probably in part due to my strenous outdoor activity, i usually sleep in my eagles nest hammock now when backpacking or camping but i also have a tent and cot when im in an area unsutiable for a hammock. Now a hammock is the best nights sleep you can get in my opinion, i have never woke up to a sore back in my hammock with or without my Klymit Static V pad. The great thing about the static v is even when i am sleepin on my cot and even on the ground my back may be a little stiff but doesnt hurt like it used to when i wake up. Seriously i have had to cut a trip short and come down the mountain due to back pain. Not so with this pad, even if i am cuttin wood and hauling logs i may go to bed with a sore back but i wake up in better condition than when i retired and with a few stretches am ready to have a great day in the forest. I will never buy another pad, unless Klymit can improve the Static V. HIGHLY RECCOMEND.
2ND UPDATE: Still going strong. Still the most comfortable pad i have had the pleasure of owning. If i am not sleeping in a bed, i am sleeping on this Klymit. Backpacked and car camped well over a dozen trips since purchasing and i have no complaints. Well one. It seems the price has dropped a bit since i purchased this, it was worth the 60$ or 70$ i paid and is an absolute STEAL at 50$. Please do yourself and your body a favor and purchase this pad for you next trip. Happy backpacking, and please remember to KEEP IT GREEN.
3rd Final Update
Still have my Klymit Static V pad, as well as a few other klymit products. Check out the inflatable x pillow. 😍. Anyway, this just past summer my pad seemed to have finally developed a slow leak somewhere. Its still my favorite camp pad, well sleeping pad really. This sleep pad lasted me several years. Around 5 years i think. I think thats commendable for any type of sleep pad, and incredible for an inflatable one! Im sorry mine has developed a leak finally but i am glad i purchased it. I havent tossed it out, i may try to find and remedy the leak. If i dont, or can not fix it I can say with honest confidence that i absolutely will be purchasing another Klymit inflatable. I still loudly reccomend Klymit and its products. I have a few of their things and they all perform amazingly. Thank you Klymit, your one of my favorite outdoor equipment companies.
I have tried this out so far in my hammock, and on the ground, and slept great both ways. There is sufficient R value to this pad for spring and summer here in the Pacific Northwest, time will tell for fall, but I can either use a piece of reflectix, or suck it up and buy the insulated V, for a little extra there is the "lite" version that's about 19oz.
In the hammock, the v baffles did an excellent job of not creating any lumps, I had it probably half inflated. I find it easy to fill the pad up, then reach over my head while laying on the pad and release air slowly till it feels comfortable, then close the valve without having to get up. Again,it provides insulation from cool air under the hammock, but probably not in very low temperatures.
On the ground, again the v baffles impress me. Perhaps 70% inflated was good for me, I could lay in any (straight) position in total comfort. I'm used to a soft mattress at home, and I can't stand sleeping on closed cell foam pads, it kills my hips, shoulders, and heels. This pad has no pressure points or hot spots at all.
It weighs 18.1oz, just like it says it does. And it's honestly smaller than a nalgene, and very simple to roll back down the same size. Very forgiving on the packload. Other than the availability of a long or large size for people such as myself, I don't get why people would buy a thermarest over this at nearly $200
At just over a pound and very small to throw in a pack, this is SO much better than taking a bulky pad. I actually brought another pad to put under it when I first took it out, expecting to need to create a better insulation barrier between me and the cold ground, but found that this pad alone was sufficient - although the nights WERE a bit warmer than expected, around 45-50 degrees. I actually purchased a pillow with it: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006WS5WXO/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_2 and I roll the two up together and it still easily fits in the bag. My teenage daughter recently took it on a three day camp and also loved it. The bag also has a little sown in pocket that includes a patch kit. Thankfully I haven't had to use it, but it's a nice touch.
