UPDATE: Been using this pad for about a year now. I camp in all climates and conditions, i have a poor back, probably in part due to my strenous outdoor activity, i usually sleep in my eagles nest hammock now when backpacking or camping but i also have a tent and cot when im in an area unsutiable for a hammock. Now a hammock is the best nights sleep you can get in my opinion, i have never woke up to a sore back in my hammock with or without my Klymit Static V pad. The great thing about the static v is even when i am sleepin on my cot and even on the ground my back may be a little stiff but doesnt hurt like it used to when i wake up. Seriously i have had to cut a trip short and come down the mountain due to back pain. Not so with this pad, even if i am cuttin wood and hauling logs i may go to bed with a sore back but i wake up in better condition than when i retired and with a few stretches am ready to have a great day in the forest. I will never buy another pad, unless Klymit can improve the Static V. HIGHLY RECCOMEND.
2ND UPDATE: Still going strong. Still the most comfortable pad i have had the pleasure of owning. If i am not sleeping in a bed, i am sleeping on this Klymit. Backpacked and car camped well over a dozen trips since purchasing and i have no complaints. Well one. It seems the price has dropped a bit since i purchased this, it was worth the 60$ or 70$ i paid and is an absolute STEAL at 50$. Please do yourself and your body a favor and purchase this pad for you next trip. Happy backpacking, and please remember to KEEP IT GREEN.
3rd Final Update
Still have my Klymit Static V pad, as well as a few other klymit products. Check out the inflatable x pillow. 😍. Anyway, this just past summer my pad seemed to have finally developed a slow leak somewhere. Its still my favorite camp pad, well sleeping pad really. This sleep pad lasted me several years. Around 5 years i think. I think thats commendable for any type of sleep pad, and incredible for an inflatable one! Im sorry mine has developed a leak finally but i am glad i purchased it. I havent tossed it out, i may try to find and remedy the leak. If i dont, or can not fix it I can say with honest confidence that i absolutely will be purchasing another Klymit inflatable. I still loudly reccomend Klymit and its products. I have a few of their things and they all perform amazingly. Thank you Klymit, your one of my favorite outdoor equipment companies.
I can't believe how small this thing packs down! Other reviewers have stated that it packs down to roughly the size of a Nalgene bottle, and they are completely correct (see photo).
Usually, you have to pay a good bit more for a pad this compact and lightweight. Even at it's regular pricing, this pad is a deal.
For those of you more inclined to self-inflating pads than blowing up a pad until you turn blue, don't worry. Even though this is not self-inflating, it's design requires surprisingly little time and effort to blow up. Well under a minute when I did it.
The Static V is also quite comfortable. Surprisingly so, actually.
Just before I purchased the Static V, I purchased another sleeping pad (also on a Lightning Deal). They were around the same price. The first pad was self-inflating, much less comfortable, heavier, and packed down to the ridiculous size of a 2-person tent. I really wish the Static V had gone on sale first, and that I'd never purchased the other pad.
The only con I can find is that my feet tend to be off the edge of the pad (I'm 5'10"). However, that is really quite normal when it comes to lightweight sleeping pads. Nothing unusual.
Overall, the Static V has saved me a ton of space in my pack, and a decent bit of weight, too. All with no loss of comfort. I'm actually getting better sleep on it, and that makes all the difference on a backpacking trip.
Do yourself a favor and buy it.
TWO of these rolled up are like 10% of the size and weight of ONE self-inflating pad. (purchased at Galyans for $100 each, which is now owned by Dick's Sporting Goods)
Blowing them up takes 8 - 10 breaths to a firm feel, and it takes me more than that to firm up my "self-inflating" pad. The ride height is almost double that of my old pad, and feels slightly more comfortable. I had my old pad and this side by side and kept going from one to the other, comparing them. One thing I noticed, is that on the Klymit pad, I almost instantly start to feel heat radiating back at me. My other pad does the same thing, but it takes about 5 minutes.
The inflating nozzle is slightly strange, but very strong. It is NOT a cheap squeeze nozzle like you find on air toys, it is good quality. Took me a few tries to get it situated correctly, but it holds air very well.
Although it resembles a pool raft, it is quite a bit tougher than one. I rolled around on it for awhile, sat up, laid back, on my side, stomach, all seemed strong and supportive.
I am 5'10", length is more than enough for me. Only downside is that I wish it was about 4 inches wider. It is exactly the width of my shoulders, but not wide enough for elbows while laying on my back. Ok if you are a still sleeper, but I roll around a lot.
For the size, weight, comfort, heat reflection, and price, there is nothing better.
