Adding more comfort without sacrificing its light weight, Klymit has amped up the original Static V formula in the Static V Luxe Sleeping Pad. Destroying all notions of how luxurious a sleeping pad can truly be, the Static V Luxe has a V-chamber design to mirror the contours of your muscular structure, which eliminates painful pressure points and traps all of your precious body heat. Measuring in at a downright vast 30-inch width, this pad offers you the freedom to toss and turn as much as you'd like without rolling off the pad. And if you do roll a bit too far, Klymit equipped this pad with Dynamic Side Rails to help guide you back for a center alignment. When it's time to head on to the next campsite, just press the push-valve for a quick deflation, and toss the pad in the included storage sack.

This is the first pad I've found that doesn't have that problem. I slept better on this than on other pads that cost a lot more, because it is actually wide enough to fit me comfortably, and I don't slip off of it in the middle of the night. Indeed, the width is palatial - it feels almost like you are sleeping in a regular bed in terms of the width.
As for comfort, I will give it two different ratings. If you lay flat on your back and your weight is spread over the surface area of the pad broadly, I found it quite comfortable, even plush. If you sleep on your side, it is still decent, but really not nearly as good. When you press all your weight down into a small part of the pad it still works, but it gets quite firm. The pad is just not that thick and so it just doesn't cushion you as well if you are side sleeper. I am normally a side sleeper, but I soon realized I should just lay flat on my back, because I found it was making my shoulder uncomfortable. If you aren't as big as me, you might not have that issue, but if you care more about sleeping on your side than having a wide pad, there are better choices out there.
It isn't insulated, but I found I could use it down into the 30s with a decent bag and one of those reflector/emergency blanket things under it.
It seems well-made and is unlikely to fail, assuming you are careful with it.
Overall, I am pretty satisfied with this pad. It is a bit heavy to backpack with, but it has won a place in my pack despite its weight. At least for me, it is significantly more comfortable to sleep on than the narrower pads I had been using. It isn't perfect, but I think it is a good value for the money.
It packs very small. But backpackers probably would want a lighter pad. Inflates very quickly with a pump. Deflates fast as well.
I got this on Amazon for $66. Two days later the price went up to $85. Shopping at Amazon can be like playing the stock market sometimes. Just wait for the price to come down. It is worth the purchase.
I purchased this after purchasing the regular Klymit Static. That one is thick and comfortable but not long or wide enough.
Love that it comes with a sac, where there's a small pocket stuffed with your repair kit. Also, I had no problems blowing up and folding it back down. It took me about 40 breaths. The instructions for this was not difficult so it was easy for me to set up and take down. I would say it took me 5 minutes to set up, and just the same to fold and take down and stash away. The footprint for this when packed down is small enough. (See pics.) When folded up, it does have some weight to it, so that's something to consider if you're planning on backpacking really light.
This size was appealing since I heard that the other thinner ones made you feel that you simply "needed" to stay in the center. It's true, but with this one, you feel comfortable enough to move and it's not in the back of your mind that you must stay put in one spot. Taller or plus-sized people would feel comfortable with this. My friend is plus-sized and he didn't find it restrictive at all.
So I've had this thing for over a year now, and have some observations. First, this thing remains very comfortable. Several of the other adults in our troop have bought them after seeing mine. I sleep so well on this thing, it's actually hard to wake up sometimes. Second, it packs well. It gets much smaller than the traditional self-inflating pads. I can pack this down enough to fit it in my pack's sleep compartment with my sleeping bag (Rovor Tabei) and pillow (Trekology Dreamer). My whole sleep system weighs less than 4 pounds. And I'm very comfortable. I have been in a constant process of improving my gear list over the last two years, and this pad was a huge value add for me. At $70 it comes in on the affordable side of light/ultralight sleeping pads. I bought a regular Static V for my son, and he took it to Philmont this summer ... no issues at all. The pads have held up great and are very comfortable. It's also notable that the Static V Luxe, being the heavier pad in the line, still weighs only slightly over a pound and a half (26 oz).
I camp with the Boy Scouts pretty much every month and do at least one long term camp with the troop a year. I used to haul a heavy, rolled up, self inflating sleeping pad with me, because I found that there was no comfort to be found with a pad less than 3 inches thick. The issue? Self inflating pads that thick, while very good (I have an Alps Comfort Series XXL ... which is crazy comfortable, but 8.5 lbs), are extremely heavy. I bought the V Luxe (which isn't the lightest Klymit inflatable) on a whim, really. I wanted something thick, but lighter with a smaller form factor when packed. I have been really happy with this pad.
I use it pretty much every month. The only time I don't use it is when I know it's going to drop below about 35 degrees, and I take my big, thick, self inflating pad. Otherwise, I find this pad completely comfortable. It doesn't make any weird noises (like other inflatables I've seen). It really does inflate in about 20 breaths.
My one recommendation (not a complaint, just a suggestion) is to update the design of the stuff sack. it's too big. Even some sort of small compression sack would be better. There's just too much extra fabric hanging off when packed, and the pad roll gets loose. I've taken to wrapping a strip of Velcro around the pad and bag when packed to keep it all small and functional.
Otherwise, absolutely no complaints. Great pad.
